For #inktober2020 Day 4: "Radio". I really wanted to do this one, because I was so thrilled that I came up with an interesting idea for such an extremely un-middleearthy prompt as "radio". Can you recognize what it is? 🙂
Well, this time it is not a place that directly appears in the stories, it is only mentioned and its function can be only guessed. There are several differents artifacts in Middle-earth that allow seeing distant things: The Palantíri, the Mirror of Galadriel and the Seat of Seeing, on Amon Hen. But there is also the counterpart of the latter one: Amon Lhaw or the Hill of Hearing. In the days of the great kings, a high seat was built there (similarly to Amon Hen) and watch was kept there. Although nothing more is known about that, we might assume that the Seat of Hearing was used to hear things from distant lands that might be of use for the Kings of Gondor.
So I drew a Gondorian warden of the Hill of Hearing on duty upon the seat sometime in the old days of Gondor, hearing the "radio broadcasts" from distant lands. 🙂
