So I think this is like..the best lion character I've ever created. x: I took so long on making him; his mane took the longest. And then there was the color scheme to choose. >3< Good thing AusEquine was there to give me some suggestions! She suggested a sandy color and HERE IT IS!
I was originally gonna keep him as just a regular character, but then I found this group, HeartOfTheKalahari and I thought why not use him as a character there!? 8D

Name: Enzi [N-zee]

—[Vain]: Enzi, or Z for short, prides himself on looking good. He isn't snobby or stuck up by any means, but if he stumbles across a pride with some nice looking females, he'll use all of his good looks and natural charm to woo them. Although, he usually gets chased out by the pride leader afterword. He also knows he's larger and stronger than most other males and makes sure that he stays that way by hunting often and grooming himself regularly. However, sometimes he can be a bit impulsive and cocky with his strength, which can lead into dangerous or sticky situations for him that he may regret later on.

—[Unyielding]: If there's something that Enzi wants, he'll stop at nothing to get it. Pressure is nothing to him; he could face on an elephant alone, knowing that there's a high chance he could die, and smile about it. He's nearly fearless when it comes to fights, but he'll never start one with his fellow lion if he doesn't have to. Because of his determined nature, he's an excellent hunter; it's rare for him to not catch what he chooses as prey.

—[Intelligent]: Aside from his sometimes vain cockiness, Enzi is usually very logical and intelligent. Before making any serious decisions, he takes the time to think everything through, making sure that his final decision is the right (or the best out of the choices he has) decision he can make. This also makes him skilled at attacking. Although he doesn't pursue fights often, he knows exactly when and where the best places are for attacks and for battles. He also knows, when hunting, what would be too much for him to take on; he knows he's strong, but not the strongest out there.

—[Guile]: Along with his determined nature comes Enzi's crafty side. Like stated before, if he wants something bad enough, he'll do whatever he can possibly do to get it. This usually brings out his trickery. There's been many a time when he's bargained for something, received what he wanted, and then vanished without holding up his end of the bargain. He usually only does this with food; he'll trick a hyena into thinking he won't harm them if they give him food, but afterword, the hyena becomes lunch for the scavengers. Sometimes he'll even do this with shamans; he'll ask to trade for some medicine and then he'll disappear after he's used what he got, or he'll make up an excuse as to why he can't give what they asked for. However, he only resorts to trickery of this sort when he absolutely has to, and those are rare cases.

—[Mellow]: When he's not hunting or tricking others, Enzi is actually quite a calm fellow. He enjoys napping or lazing in the shade, and his eyelids droop slightly, making him seem tired all the time. He isn't lazy, but if he has the chance to do nothing, that's what he'll do. He's also very 'chill' about everything; he doesn't freak out and he doesn't get very angry often. He also laughs really easily. This sometimes make him seem sarcastic and uncaring, but really, he just enjoys life.

—[Amiable]: If Enzi views you as a friend (or a potential-friend or someone he doesn't think is a threat), he's the nicest guy you know. He's good-natured around his pals and loves to socialize. He doesn't have a lot of friends, but the ones he has he intends to keep forever. He's very hospitable and helpful to those he cares about. He will also ask for advice from his friends and take their opinions and feelings to heart.

—[Chivalrous]: Enzi is gracious and honorable, even toward his enemies, especially a defeated one, and toward the weak or poor. This princely attitude was engraved in him from a young age and now that he's in a pride again, it's showing even more. He's considerate and courteous to everyone, especially his pride-mates. He's loyal until death and holds more courage than fear.

—[Birth-Cubhood]: Enzi was the largest of his litter; his three other siblings were quite small compared to him. He was also the only male. His mother and father were delighted to finally have a male; their previous litters were all females. Because of this, Enzi was favored and spoiled as a cub. His pride was small, so his only play-mates were his sisters and a few other lionesses that joined before he was born. Most of his sisters disliked him and the older ones picked on him quite a bit for his girlish looks, saying that he was actually a lioness in disguise. He didn't usually let it get to him though; he truly loved his sisters and the rest of his pride as well. Sometimes he would get sad though, but his mother always cheered him up by telling him stories or giving him special things. She was his best friend and the one person he could truly be happy around. His father was almost this, but he was busy a lot of the time, patrolling their lands and making sure everything was safe and secure. He was the only male protecting their pride, so he was usually off tending to the needs of the pride and kingdom rather than spending time with his one and only son. When Enzi wasn't with his mother or his sisters, he was off exploring and getting himself into trouble. He was very mischievous and adventurous beyond belief.

—[Adolescence]: Once Enzi was old enough to start training to become king, his father made it a priority to start spending more time with him. His father was wise and taught him everything there was to know about being, not just a king, but a great leader. Enzi listened carefully and was determined to become the best king he could be when his father was ready to give him the throne. By this time, his father was older; not quite an elder, but not quite as young and healthy as he once was. He was often very tired after a long day of patrolling and teaching Enzi that all he wanted to do at sunset was lie down and sleep until the ache in his bones was gone. During this time, Enzi was beginning to grow his mane, and boy was it growing fast! His sisters still picked on him, still jealous of their parents favored love for him. Some of them enjoyed his company, but most tried to steer clear of him. Enzi did his best to try and win their affection, but that usually only won him a slap in the face or a snarl. All the while, his parents were oblivious to his sisters torment. They saw only him and his great potential. While he was thankful for this, he desperately wished his sisters would feel the same way.

Not long into Enzi's training did he learn about rogue lions. His father said that most were viscous and some even banded together in bachelor groups. Sometimes they would pillage small prides and take them for themselves, killing the former king or kings and anyone who opposed their new rule. Enzi listened and stored away that information in his mind, not really thinking it was of top priority. Their pride was still small, even though it had grown since he was a cub, but it was about average now. His father had had more cubs, and had even produced a few male cubs. Once they were grown, their pride would be well secured. However, right now, Enzi didn't realize how vulnerable they were. His father was growing older and becoming increasingly weak by the day. Enzi himself wasn't quite as strong as a full grown lion, and he probably wouldn't be able to take on more than one and survive. None of this occurred to Enzi, however. He'd become vain and fawned over his appearance. It was always on his fathers mind, though. And as he predicted, it wouldn't take long for a few merciless rogues to notice his unprotected pride.

The day was coming to an end as the four of them approached. They were young, but their scarred bodies told Enzi and his father that they'd seen—and won—many battles. The looks on their faces said this wouldn't be the first pride they'd come across. Enzi's father did his best to stall and hold them off, but he was no match for the younger and stronger opponents. Every time Enzi tried to jump in and help, his father would push him out of the fray, back toward his sisters and pride-mates. It wasn't long, though, before his father was verging near his last breath. He'd successfully taken down one of the four, but the other three were still going strong. And with him being distracted by his decreasing strength and the threat staring him in the face, he could do nothing to stop his son from fighting this time. With a snarl louder than he thought he could make, Enzi hurled himself toward the three rogues. They soon forgot the old lion and put their full attention into Enzi. He put up a fight, but like his father, it was clear that he was not yet a match for three grown males. Not long into their scuffle, Enzi's breathing was ragged and he began to notice places on his body that stung from wounds the others had inflicted on him. His mind reeled with revenge and murder, but then his gaze fell on his father's body. It was slumped over in the dirt. His mother, sobbing, laid over top of him. She looked up at him and his chest tightened. She didn't need to speak for him to understand what her eyes told him: Run. Survive. She couldn't stand to see her beloved son die, not when her mate had died only minutes before. His gaze then turned to his sisters. They were all horrified, but some of them looked sickly satisfied to see Enzi being put in his place. None of them made any sound of opposition to the rogues taking over. Only his mother, who's words were slurred with sobs. He finally moved when he heard her cracked voice mumble, "Please." And he did run, as fast and as far away as he could, straight into the heart of the Kalahari.

—[Adulthood]: After the fight, Enzi prayed that they would spare his mother and his younger, defenseless brothers, but he knew that fate wouldn't be kind to the latter. He spent many months recovering. He cried for his father, for his mother, and most of all, for his sisters. He'd seen the true hatred in their eyes; they never wanted him to be their king. He wished to go back, to take revenge on the ones who tore apart his life, but he knew he wouldn't stand a chance. Not until he was older and stronger. So he vowed that one day he would be strong enough to take on them all and take back his place as king. As he grew and matured, however, his view on his past altered slightly. If he went back, the pride would be filled with his sisters and their offspring; his mother would probably have passed and he would have no one to support him. And in a small part of his mind he wondered if his sisters had planned that attack all along.

So a rogue he became, the very thing he despised. His mane was fully grown now and he was surprised to see how his scars grew smaller and less noticeable. He promised not to be like the lions who had killed his father. He would travel alone and stay away from prides if he could help it. It would be hard, but he was an adult now and he grew stronger by the day. He didn't like being alone; he missed the warm embrace of his family and the air of safety it provided. But he pushed forward, remembering every day the final look his mother had given him. Survive. And he would.
