This is also where his large trust issues come in. He will never let anyone catch him by surprise and he'll always keep one eye open and on you if you're around him. To most it seems pretty creepy and it tends to ward off anyone who sticks around for a few hours- which is exactly what he wants -but really he's just trying to keep himself safe. There are very, very few who he trusts and even then he can still be quite cautious with them.

—[Intelligent]: Because he's always observing and always asking questions, Pele is quite the smart individual. He soaks up all knowledge that he hears and his mind works a little bit like a filing cabinet; he can flip through information like he was going through a book and pick out exactly what he needs when he needs it. He also isn't afraid to correct you if he hears you spewing inaccuracies or things only idiots would say.

—[Mysterious]: Although he's always prying into your business, when you turn the tables and start asking about him, Pele will immediately put up his walls and shut down any questions you have. He doesn't like anyone having advantages over him and that means if no one knows anything about him, surely no one could use anything against him!

—[Hot-headed]: If you do end up persisting with question after question, be ready because Pele has one mighty temper. He won't be afraid to put you in your place if he feels he needs to, whether by violence or a very firm scolding. Small things tend to get him worked up as well because of his short fuse.

—[Merciful]: However, even though Pele has a very big temper, he still won't kill or maim if he can help it. He's not a heartless monster, contrary to his outward appearance and facade. —[Birth-Cubhood]: Aleela was a young lioness when her pride was attacked by Ghariki and his pawns. She managed to escape with her life, but at a cost that would haunt her forever. She had willingly let her siblings fight off the guards while she ran like a coward. From then on, she was full of guilt and regret. She stayed so far away from prides for such a long time that when she finally saw another rogue lion, she literally threw herself at him. She wailed and talked about her past, but the rogue had no intentions of really settling down or staying with her. So, he comforted her and seduced her, and then went on his way when she was fast asleep. The next morning, Aleela felt even worse after searching endlessly for the lion whom she didn't even know the name of. Her heart grew dark and she decided to never make that mistake again.

However, several months later and Aleela was no longer alone. That night with the rogue had ended up in her concieving a small male. He was dark and resembled his father, so Aleela couldn't help but name him Pele; to represent how annoyed she was that he looked so much like the lion who had tricked her. Unbeknownst to the small cub, Pele adored his mother. She did her best to try and feed them both, mostly by scavaging and hunting small prey here and there, but she couldn't sustain them both for long. Pele had to be weaned early because Aleela wasn't producing anymore milk. She was quite cruel to the cub, always pushing him away when he wanted affection or growling at him. Pele didn't understand it and only ever wanted his mother to smile at him. It never happened though, no matter what he did. He even caught small prey for her a few times but still it wasn't enough for the now cold-hearted lioness.

—[Adolescence]: When Pele became a juvenile, he hit a massive growth spurt and was soon towering over his mother. All baby fat (the little that the had) converted into pure muscle. Safe for his mane, he looked almost complete, like a real, strong, adult lion. Because of Aleela's uncaring and cold attitude toward him, Pele had ceased all attempts to please her and had picked up most of her bahavior. However, by now, Aleela had given up. She no longer had to take care of Pele; he was old enough to fend for himself. She had no reason to live anymore. She was still quite young, but because of the little amounts of food they had, she looked much older, much weaker, but still somehow retained her youthful beauty. And although Pele didn't try to please or gain her affection, he stayed with her to protect and feed her. She never stopped him from doing so, although sometimes she would yell at him for incoherant reasons.

While they wandered, never staying in one place for long, they came across many difference species. Mostly just scavengers like themselves; hyenas, vultures, jackals, wild dogs. Most of the time, Pele's size was enough to send them scurrying, even other rogues. However, those normally only came in singles. Pele was sure he could handle taking care of them, he didn't know that rogues could band together. How wrong he was. On a normal day, they stumbled across a small pride of five males. Aleela was about ready to turn and run, but the males were encircling them in seconds. They poked and prodded at Aleela, who was terribly frightened, but also trying to sound manacing. Pele did his best to try and keep them away from her, but he was shoved out of the circle as they closed in on Aleela. When she denied what they wanted, one of the males swiftly killed her. The others were angry and started fighting amongst themselves, soon leaving the body.

When Pele could finally see that his mother was indeed dead, he didn't have time to grieve her. A few of the males had turned their attention to him and instead of crying, Pele lunged. He was a ball of fury and claws and teeth and fur. Pele didn't stop until he felt the life leave three of the lions. The other two, seeing that Pele still had more in him, promptly ran away as fast as they could. When it was all over said and done, Pele was marred from the battle. A trail of blood followed him as he numbly padded toward his mother's body. What he found when he got there was not something he expected; her body was moving, but to his surprise it was a cub. She had snuggled up against the warmth of Aleela's dead body. Pele looked around and now realized that her own mother had been killed probably only hours ago. He took pity on the young cub and took her in, carrying her away from the disturbing scene.

—[Adulthood]: It wasn't long before Pele's mane grew in. The injuries he had sustained from the battle with the lions that slayed his mother had healed, but left large, menacing scars all over him. Those who saw him either cowered or ran away. However, there was one that didn't run away. Mypasa, the cub he had taken in, continued to follow at his heels wherever he went. He did his best to feed her and protect her, and with his size and appearance that wasn't hard to do. Mostly he just scavenged like his mother had taught him, but sometimes he would take down big kills so the two of them could get a good meal every once and a while. He struggled to not be the type of guardian his mother had been and tried his best to show at least some sort of happiness for her when she was young. As the two matured, though Pele was always older, they were finally able to converse on an intellectual level rather than an adult to child level. They continued to travel together, alone, and straying away from other lions out of safety and, honestly, a little bit of fear. The two had grown fond of each other, but due to Pele's harsh upbringing, he is unable to really show his affections for the lioness in the proper way.
