No problem, DA does a really bad job of encouraging Group awareness!

So you can search for Groups on  groups.deviantart.com/ and the 2 main things to look for are number of Watchers (shown in the search results) and whether or not it's still active, which can be estimated by recent comments/uploads, or by trying to join the Group and seeing how it goes. Another way to find groups is to look for popular images with a similar theme and see what Groups they're in.

To get your art into Groups there are 2 methods:
1) Someone already in the Group submits your art, the Group says yes, and then DA will ask you if you want it there
2) Join the Group and add it yourself (either using the 'Contribute Art' link on the Group, or the 'Add to a Group' button on the pic's page, which is on the right-hand side in classic DA, or a little icon under the image in Eclipse-mode DA)
