Description
This is the Proteus submarine from the 1966 Science Fiction movie 'Fantastic Voyage'. The film was directed by Richard Fleischer and the ship was designed by Harper Goff.
This is the Moebius 1/32nd scale kit, measuing approx 15 inches / 38cm in length. I did a lot of modifictaions and corrections; all scratch built by me to make it more accurate to the full-size prop seen in the film.

It is unusual that a fictitious vehcile such as this, created solely for a feature film to exist as a full size prop with an interior and exterior. typically only parts of the vehicle of ship are built full size and only exist in their entirety as a miniature, or CG model. Inevitably thinsg don't always match up, becoming a problem for the model kit manufacturer and the model maker. So in this regard the Proteus is a rarity, if not unique.

This kit has a few shortcomings - no landing gear, hatches cannot be posed open or closed and no crew figures. But these are things that can be added without too much trouble. the bigger problems with the kit are some pretty big errors in the general shape of the hull and interior details that are not accurate. I corrected all of this on my model.
