Description Sometimes you find yourself shipping a canon or non-canon pairing that you didn’t think you’d ever be shipping as much as you do. It’s when two characters prove they surprisingly go well together by either becoming a canon couple or at least showing they have the potential to be an awesome couple through their interactions. These are those kinds of ships for me.

-Luna x Sam/Luan x Benny (The Loud House)

These two pairings share this first spot due to how unexpectedly adorable I found both to be. While I became intrigued with shipping most of the Louds and their crushes from the episode, L is for Love, I could only speculate how those relationships would be and I couldn’t call them actual good ships if they weren’t explored more in the canon. I almost didn’t think Sam and Benny would be brought back like how the other love interests weren’t. But then they actually were and I’m all the more happy for it. While I kind of love Saluna a little more than Luanny, both are OTP material for me with how they’ve been established.

-Dipper x Pacifica (Gravity Falls)

These two don’t really need an explanation as anyone who ships them knows how unexpected it was for them to work so well together. Some people considered shipping them even before Northwest Mansion Mystery, but I just couldn’t see it happening. But then obviously over the course of the episode, I was convinced it could happen. The chemistry between them taking us all by surprise is one reason why they’re one of my favorite OTPs.

-Hunter x Willow (The Owl House)

Lumity could also be on this list, but I think Huntlow was much more unlikely. Before they even interacted, the thought of shipping them never crossed my mind. When they did meet, some people considered pairing them together, but I still wasn’t sold. But throughout the last few episodes of season two and all of season three with it implying that Hunter had feelings for Willow and them just having a wholesome relationship in general, how could I not love them together? While it wasn’t officially confirmed in the show that they ended up together, I think it’s still safe to say they did when you look at them at the very end.

-Korra x Asami (The Legend of Korra)

Obviously, the relationships both of them had with Mako were letdowns and I liked the friendship between them a lot more. I also didn’t mind the idea of shipping them together. But like a lot of other fans, I wasn’t expecting it to actually happen and also like a lot of other fans, I was all for it. As one of the very first canon LGBTQ couples in animation, they deserve credit whether you ship them or not. And I ship them hard. Not only are they really sweet, but they’re also a super hot power couple.

-Twilight x Sunset (MLP/Equestria Girls)

Not only did Sunset exceed my expectations as a character after she went from the first antagonist to the official protagonist of Equestria Girls, but her chemistry with Twilight made me want to ship them more than I ever thought it could. I like Sunset with Sci-Twi as well, but her and Princess Twilight will always be one of my MLP OTPs.

-Brody x MacArthur (Total Drama)

I did not even consider shipping these two or even expect them to be friends until they started interacting on screen. Brody’s crush on MacArthur and the way they played off each other made them quite a fun duo for me and my favorite ship from The Ridonculous Race.

-Rigby x Eileen (Regular Show)

Based on how one-sided the attraction was at first (and while Rigby’s a great character, I was confused about what Eileen saw in him early on), I did not have any high hopes that they’d go anywhere. But then they actually did go the distance. She influenced him to be a better person and he proved to be a surprisingly good boyfriend. Not to mention that their relationship really improved around the time Mordecai completely screwed up his own love life which made them especially look good in comparison. They’re easily the best couple on the show if you ask me.

-Darwin x Carrie (The Amazing World of Gumball)

Yet another ship that never crossed my mind due to how unlikely it seemed, but then I was all for it when it actually happened in the show and they proved how well they go together. It just goes to show that opposites really do attract.

-Vi x Caitlyn (Arcane)

I was hoping for these two to team up as they had plenty of their own screen time before they met. When they finally did halfway through the first season, I did not expect there to be such palpable romantic tension between them. Hopefully, they can become an established couple down the line in a way that won’t interfere with the main storyline.

-Molly x Ollie (The Ghost and Molly McGee)

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t that much invested in shipping them at first and I wasn’t expecting them to get together anyway with their initial different perspectives on ghosts and how they just stayed friends despite the mutual crush. But then they actually did start dating and though I wasn’t counting on it, I’d say their romance has been well earned after taking the time to be established.
