Rogue and Jean from X-Men Evolution. One of my all time favorite cartoon series. Still have all episodes in DVD, except for Season 4 that didn't have a proper DVD release. I still sometimes dream about a fifth season coming out. And I DO mean having a dream about watching a new episode. No idea how my brain even compiles the scenes, but it works.

And, yes! Unlike a lot of pairings I see, I do believe there is actually a pretty good basis for this. Actual material to work with.

So, I figure I'd throw Emma Frost in there, to seduce Scott Summers, just to get him out of the way. And Jean would find comfort in Rogue, who'd berate Scott for his unfaithfulness. Jean would mistakenly think Rogue disliked or even hated her, to which Rogue would respond by telling her that she never hated her. She was only jealous of what she had and could have. Something that Rogue herself could never have, because of her powers and because of everything that has happened to her, the anger and hatred that destroyed her, in her own words (from the show.)

Since Rogue absorbed Jean and her memories a lot (even after Xavier clears the memories and personalities from her mind, she gets them all over again, when she is controlled by Mesmero), Rogue knows Jean pretty well. Better than most. Maybe even better than Scott. Jean would realize just how much Rogue had done for her, Scott, the rest of the X-Men and for the whole world and she would see her in a new light. Jean, with her own powers growing (the Phoenix Force slowly growing in her), helps Rogue control her power, to an extent, through months of lengthy meditative sessions, where she'd have a layer of clothing on herself, but Rogue would have none. And they'd sit together, with Jean encouraging her to let her skin get used to being free, again and they'd make physical contact, often. Would have a lot of feelings close to hangovers and headaches from it, but Jean would not quit. Would not quit on Rogue. Even after Rogue would tell her it's dangerous for both of them. But, after months and month, even before Rogue would learn minimal control, they'd grew close.

And the sessions, plus her growing feelings for Rogue, would also inadvertently help Jean prepare herself for when the Phoenix Force would try take hold of her. And it wouldn't control her. She'd remain in control, much to the surprise of Xavier, who'd be ready to wet his pants the moment he'd realize that the Phoenix he'd sealed away in Jean's mind, long ago, was back (as per the 3rd X-Men film, which I thought was a pretty good plot element, with the Professor already knowing about the Phoenix Force and being terrified of it. And in the show, he'd seen the future, also.)
