A big watercolor commission for my buddyI did this one before the Hellboy and Wolverine sketchcards i posted recently (also for him). I like the differences between this piece and the sketchcards. It was fun to try different looks for them.
This was probably one of the tougher watercolor pieces i've done. I really need to practice my watercolor techniques more lol.
I believe this is 5x6.

The snikt/hook hand is a really great touch! Awesome colour work; especially like the rendering on Hellboy. Makes me want to get back into watercolours myself but I think I've been won over by the heaviness of acrylics!

Yeah; they've got a very plastic quality when they dry and they're quite forgiving to mistakes and easy to paint over. Also very good for building up layers if you like a cel-shaded look like I do!

I'm not sure what brands you chaps have in the Americas but I used a mixture of cheap and expensive and find they work rather well - I go into boring detail about my painting on my blog if you want to have a look! [link]

Wolverine = awesome
Hellboy = awesome
Pirates = awesome
So, (Hellboy + Wolverine) x Pirates = twice the awesome2
You can't argue with that math

yeah I kind of stopped following xmen.. around that time... and he got a stump ... its cool that it was drastic.. but the thought Wolvie could be like that forever would be weird. I really don't know how they fixed that

I think it was only in the AoA storyline that he had lost his hand...and then when Bishop fixed the past everything went back to normal. It was a fun storyline.
