nice work! Can you direct me to any instruction or tutorial explaining how to color objects and lights.Β  I havent been able to find what Im lookingh for but I might be asking the wrong questions. Is this done through the colorize tab? height maps? im lost

first:
load the parameter!
play around with a value and click "calculate" to see what happens. use a smaller resolution for faster preview


second and ...

material/color has transparency
-> transparency is the top of the three color/material values (transp-, specular/reflection, diffuse)

lights
- four positional lights inside the object -> as i remember it takes a while to find good positions

postprocess
- transparency is on
--> check the values for Absorbtion and light scattering -> a bit higher as usual

Β 
no heightmaps needed - u see it if you load the paras

model is onlyΒ ASurfMod1 with two pretransforms and a floor (heighmapsIFS with MapNr = 0 (zero) - i have no image in the MB3D map folder with filename 0.png|jpg > it means no heightmap)


Β maybe not really easy to understand. play with the paras.

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain. This helped a lot. Im slowly figuring this program out. I wish there was an in depth tutorial out there because there are so many things I want to learn. Its fun exploring but I definitely want to learn how to become more of a creator. Part of what i like is not knowing what exactly the formulas do. It makes it unique experience every time and thankfully artists like yourself and a few others have definitely inspired me to consider the art form of fractal exploring/engineering. Anyways, keep up the great work.

for me it was very helpful to understand how mb3d calculates the single steps/iterations. after i understood this ... much less magic and much more control what happens.

remember ... "repeat from here" is on formula 2 (amazing surf)

open the 3D Navigator and you see a flat/rectangle amazing surf. so far so good

Change a value for Formula 1 (_Transform) direct in 3D-Navigator X, Y, or Z or Rotate and u will see, that it moves/rotates the flat and whole amazing surf.

time to understand, that "repeat from here" means Formula 1 (_Transform) calculated only once, and Formula 2 (amazing surf) all other iterations (default of "Max iterations" is 60).

Now try to set another "pretransform" Formular in Slot 1 instead of "_Transform"
e.g. "_gnarl3Dfast" and play with the values in 3D Navigator, to see what gnarl does.


instead of the "Ads"-Formulas as pretransform also use a normal formula

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond...even more so that you have given me a wealth of information.Β  Ive been going through the formulas one by one to try and understand what exactly it is that they do.Β  I found your tutorials very helpful.Β  Its like Christmas everytime I discover something new. I have a long ways to go but luckly learning in this program is a lot of fun.Β  Ironically, a while ago I was online browsing through images on google and came across your piece (the one you use for avatar.)Β  I saved it in my inspiration folder, but I had no idea who you were or that it came from a fractal program until I tried to do a reverse image search a discovered all of your other art....which led me back to mb3d. So I must thank you for that as well. As far as sharing parameters...I get it. When looking through all the fractal art on Deviant I can definitely see some people clearly used someones parameters without any real tweaking/discovery and no credit to its originator.Β  As an artist it bugs the hell out of me when people do that.Β  It kinda sucks the magic out of it.
