Description
This is sort of the sequel to my picture entitled "Death of a Nobody"....and has been in the works since I posted that pic months ago. One of the most touching and emotional scenes in the game...the death of Axel. I imagine Roxas cried...it was so sad....anyway...this is a strictly NON YAOI depiction of their friendship...I hope you all like it.I do not own any KH characters. Property of Squaresoft and Disney...but this pic is mine. Don't steal it.
(If Roxas looks a bit odd...well...I'm not sure if I'll re-scan this or not. I wanted Roxas to look almost like he's fading/in an alternate dimension...but anyway....the effect was a tough one to control.)

Yeah...And I think they mention that in the Manga...that Sora kept his heart when he became a heartless...and Roxas did as well.

Oh wow. Hmm, that is an interesting effect you did for Roxas (I noticed it after you commented about it...! I'm so bad for being so slow. ...)
I wanted to say, wow. Their faces are so full of emotion, it breaks my heart just seeing this! And then it makes me think of Axel's last scene, just as you mentioned here. Wow... what a moving piece. So sad.

Plus, I just tell myself, "he either isn't dead because so many of his fans love him and they'll do something with him again (think of Sephiroth, ugh...) or else he's not dead so long as I don't face up to it myself!" I'm pretending to thwart the gamemakers, I suppose...

Thank you! I'm trying to work at putting emotion into my art...this one was easy because that scene in the game was really emotional...the death of a best friend is bound to be sad.

Thank you! I wanted it to have a bittersweet feeling...Axel gives his life to save Roxas...so it sort of makes him feel like he has a purpose and a being...and neither he or Roxas are nobodies....

Thank you very much! I'm very happy with how Axel came out. This is originally in color...I'm still not sure if I like that this has the same look as "Death of a Nobody"...sort of takes away from the originality of that piece...but..I dunno.

And Roxas looks fine, his face has a nice three-dimensionality to it, and their poses are great.

Thank you very much. I wanted to make this different from "Death of a Nobody" but then I was thinking that since the first one portrayed Axel holding Larxene who had passed, this should be along those same lines since it's Axel who died in this scene...sort of a full-circle kind of thing.
I agree about good Axel and Roxas fanart that's non-Yaoi. It is difficult to find but it is out there!

I know...they seemed more like siblings to me, like Axel was the older brother who was supposed to watch out for Roxas, so it would make sense that he was trying so hard to find him.

Another theory is that he's Sora's father's nobody...just something I was pondering after seeing the most recent preview for KH III/KH II Final mix

Now that I re-watched the Final Mix trailer, I noticed that the brown-haired guy does look a bit like Axel. I chalked it up to them being created by the same character designer, but that's a really interesting theory....Axel seems rather young, but maybe his heart was taken before Sora was born? We know he has a mother, if only by her voice. Yay for wild random theories!

I know....most of the theories out there are pretty far-fetched....but it could explain the close relationship between Roxas and Axel.
