Description through hell and high water

experimenting a little bit with soft feathery brushstrokes
was thinking of refining and adding more detail to the tank and the soldiers but i think ill leave them loose. I like this style so far will probably try more like this.

comments ritiques please.

Great use of value and composition!

I like the brushstrokes; they work well for a piece like this. Nice avatar, too X]

This is great!! Like the way you use gray scales instead of colors, it gave a sense of real battle.

Seems a little flat to me. I love the dust particles and mud in the foreground, but wouldn't the muzzle-fire in the back light up part of the silhouetted figures?

Also the middle figure before the tank leads the eye into the distance, but the tank is higher up on the horizon line then it should be.

Still, it's impressive the amount of detail that's inferred with the figures. Also I do like the atmosphere and ambiance. Perhaps a dirty filter would help even things out some. All in all I do like it; just thought this might help some!

yeah i think ill go back and add some subtle lighting to the soldiers i agree with on the flatness, add some depth.

i think perhaps moving the front soldier(he is kneeling) forward a little and making him a bit smaller would help a little with the composition and the looking at the tank now making it a bit smaller and a little lower in the image would hep a bit.

thanks for the feedback helps alot.

Very sketchy, and great tones and characters developed from such quick marks.

Its good for you to experiment, it's the best way to come up with new things and ways to approach topics.

Like what he said, the lighting would help define the detail a little more.

i was thinking at first that the tank is a bit too far away to have enough light to reach the soldiers but maybe a subtle amount will help bring them out a bit thanks for the comment

Perhaps try adding on some rim lighting to the helmets/sides of the soldiers from the tank's muzzle flash

i was thinking wether or not to add more lighting but decided not to. I think your right it would bring the soldiers out a little bit more add some depth. cheers for the feedback.

you always can just make a new layer and try out the lighting, delete it if it looks bad, or have a side by side to see which people like more >.>
