If you do not mind my asking, just how did you paint the orange chunk on the left? The lustre is amazing.

Thanks! I don't mind you asking! That orange chunk on the left is hand-painted from scratch. All of my hand-painted nebulae from scratch are done on a black linear dodge layer, starting with a hard/chalk brush and a fairly dark colour for the base. I use a smudge brush to soften and blend the edges of my brushstrokes. Next, on a new layer, using a lighter colour and a smaller size brush, I highlight the edges, followed by working the smudge brush again to soften the edges. The level of detail I want to show will determine how many times I repeat that process. There's a Nebulae Tutorial showing that method by Tylercreatesworlds. For any lighter cooler gas, I glaze over the top using a cooler colour on a screen/linear dodge layer. If the whole thing looks a bit stiff, I will use the liquify tool to move things about. I also usually paint parts or sections at a larger size, then shrink them down, duplicate and use blending modes to darken or lighten it.

I wouldn't say that it's too unrealistic. I don't think the planets' visibility was too obscured either. Maybe there's only a little too much contrast...
As an aspiring artist, I realize that this is WAY out of my league and someone like you doesn't need to hear my opinion anyway. I'm just amazed that you were able to create this to begin with! Overall, I think this is a well-done digital painting. Keep doing your thing, because something tells me you'll go far with your kind of work ethic!
