Description
All around him were new plants and animals. He could hear them, birds with high voices and birds with low voices, he even spotted a knew kind of deer he had never seen before. It was large and brown with a very broad chest and a set of antlers that would challenge even Jodi's. He had spoken once agian with the man in the shroud whose name Kellan had just learned, Vicyll. He had told Kellan of his plans to let him and his sister stay at an Inn in Summer for free until they had built themselves a new home. Vicyll had also explained that the griffins that work for him regularly patrol areas to search for loners and report back to him so he can offer them safety in some other season besides Winter, wich is said to be the harshest.
Kellan stood there on the side of the path counting the wagons as they passed unil the fifth roled up to him and he clammered in, tripping on the way up. "Kellan?" Jodi asked. "Yes, it is me, sister. I have news." Kellan told his sister all of what Vicyll had told him about the griffins and about what he saw in the woods around them. His desriptions of the mysterious deer's antlers made her smile, and he was finally able to persuade her to come outside with him and walk along the path with the wagons and the armored men. Jodi turned completely into her stag and trodded out of the moving wagon with surprisingly little difficulty.
It had been a while since Kellan had seen Jodi in her stag form,he had almost forgotten how majestic she looked, white everywhere except the darkened fur near her black eyes and her mouth and towards the ends of her legs. Her tan antlers were almost shiny in the cloudy sunlight of the alien sky. She walked forward following the sound of the wagon, trudging through the nearly-frozen mud, her head bobbing slightly as she walked. He could hear the air fill her nose as she took in the fresh mountain air, she nodded and he patted her back.
Then Kellan shifted too, into his full form, and he remembered that their clothes were being left behind so he grabbed his in his large mouth and turned around and ran to grab Jodi's wolf and otter pelt dress and her boots she herself made of...what was it? Squirrel? Rabbit? Some sort of rodent, he remembered. He trotted back to their wagon, put their clothes in it and caught back up to his sister-stag in no time. She thanked him and they kept walking. He walked alongside her and noticed that his back was at least two hands higher than hers and his head was level with her teardrop-shaped ears. This made Kellan wonder if other cats were this large.
They continuued walking on, Kellan occasionally tapping Jodi's side with his long, furry, white gray and black tail, if she started veering off the path or if the path led into a corner. But eventually Jodi grew tired and she said, "I think I'll go and lie down for a while." With that, she turned around and hopped gracefully into he rear of the wagon, shifted, and pulled the flaps down so she could change in privacy. After a while, Kellan noticed the sun was going down and he wondered if they were going to stop to make camp. He trotted forward to the first wagon and said loudly so that Vicyll could hear him, "Vicyll, would we be stopping to rest for the night or will we continue on?"
Vicyll poked his head out of the tent flaps and ran his fingers through his gray hair, "We will be stopping within the hour, my dear boy." he said, "Probably best you...you..you get rid of this.." he gestured to Kellan. "You just gestured to all of me.." Kellan said, squinting. "Yes, well I meant only that we will be entering a small village soon and I don't wish to scare all of them off before we are able to restock and rest for the night." Vicyll chuckled. Kellan retreated to the fifth wagon and hopped into it and changed his clothes. "We are stopping in a village for the night, Jodi. We'll be there shortly."
"Magnificent."she replied, putting on her fur boots and her fingerless gloves. Kellan brushed off his vest and his pants and put his boots back on. "Brother,", Jodi said, smiling, "your tail is still there. I can tell." Kellan looked down and noticed it was, indeed still there. "Eh." he said just as the wagon came to a stop.
