Yup, my university has its own, small-scale power plant. And yes, we do burn coal; we're in the dead-center of Alaska . . . nothing else is really gonna cut it (natural gas could work, but reliability is huge issue up here, and the supply would be way to subject to disruption). Healy mine, where our coal comes from, is literally an hour's drive down the Parks Highway, and is an open-pit seem, so we don't have to worry about supply.
