I'm thin, but I think being cute has nothing to do with your size and people should stop telling each other about their bodies. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks because at the end of the day your body, and my body have nothing to do with each other.Β

Amen sister! I know these feels well. All my life I hear, "Aww you have such a pretty face" or "You're so pretty for a big girl". That's like saying "Oh, you're okay looking for an average skinny chick" Seems harmless but it's just a way to pick apart at someone's insecurities. People can be beautiful regardless of size, race, religion, etc. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes!Β #effyourbeautystandards and #nomorebodyshaming

If anyone wants to check this book out "The Fat Studies Reader" edited by Esther Rothblum and Sondra Solovay. It's a textbook I'm using in the class I am T.Aing in University. It helps break down society and the culture behind fat shaming and teaches us of HAES (Health at every size). A lot of people still think, and doctors still believe (because it's still part of the way they are being educated) that Fat = Unhealthy and Thin = Healthy. The book breaks down facts and the history behind BMI (and how WRONG and inaccurate it is) and other various information that hopefully helps people understand to be fat/any weight accepting.Β

If I am happy, confident and I know I eat right and exercise, don't you dare talk to me about my weight. My weight does NOT effect you so why comment on it?Β

Iv'e been told all my life by my family and friends that I'm fat and ugly, and here in mexico it's like girls are supposed to feel bad about themselves, no matter what.
I like my face too, and sometimes I feel really pretty, I even think other people stare at me. That feels nice, makes me feel I'm cute no matter my weight. I think there are some people that doesn't even realize when they're feeling attracted to someone who is not a "small" size (which is like, what is suppose to happen, 'cause all the movies teach us that rommance only occure between fit people) But then when I talk to people, who is supposed to care about me, obviously it's all about me being unhealthy - some friend even told me that while he was smoking - even if I have a healthier lifestyle, sometimes our habits doesn't magically transform us into thin people, bus we're still happy and healthy. It's about being ok with ourselves, no matter if your body shape, society (even people who is supposed to care about us) and media will always try to make us fell ugly, and that's really sick. So... thanks Maya, for making something that really cheered up my day, I think haters will always hate, but for other people this little things really brighten up our daysΒ β€

This is probably going to sound stupid but even though I know I'm thin, I still hate showing my body because I feel like people still want to see if I have any 'imperfections' and ugh I also hate overthinking it and ok yeah I just love what you're saying here even if it doesn't really aim for people like me >.<

I agree with you completely, except I'm on the other side of the "spectrum." I remember when I had anorexia and was bone thin, people told me I looked good like that. My guy friends think this girl I know is "healthy" and aspire to me to look like her, but the truth is, I know her personally. She has only told me this secret because I share the same struggle; she also has an eating disorder. Both of us starve ourselves, in fact, me more than her, but she looses weight quicker. I'm sick of the delusion that skinny equals healthy, more likely than not, a girl you think looks good for being skinny isn't eating anything. There's no factor between eating habits and weight or weight and attractiveness. People need to get that delusion out of their head. Unless you are genuinely concerned about someone's health, not their appearance, you shouldn't say anything. Also, even concerning health, you should be careful as to how you approach that person and how far you go. You don't have any idea how much these comments hurt, how they make someone feel broken, and even push them off the edge. To the people who are truly concerned, choose your words carefully, thank you.Β

wow, this is the first time I've really seen this issue being talked about, I'm quite glad to finally see something about it
I'm an overweight guy, not to the extreme, but the belly is there in plain sight. I'm quite happy with how I look and feel but (even though I'm a guy) I've had this exact issue aswell, my friends telling me I'm pretty cute for a big one, that I could be real handsome if I lost some weight, etc. and it got me kinda down sometimes.
So yeah, thanks for this comic, helped me realise I'm not the only one out there
