So I know that this looks weird (like, REALLY weird, like if The Devil Wears Prada and The Thing did a mash up directed by Lady Gaga weird), but there's kind of a method to my madness? (Mostly madness, but a tiny bit of method there).

Basically, for the next part of my Unconventional Mermaids series, I wanted to do one based on krill. The eyes reminded me of those huge sunglasses that you see high class fashionistas wearing, and that led to...this...?

I feel like the coloured version isn't nearly as weird as the line art feels. In the line art version the gill legs are just empty tubes and the things nightmares are made from. They're far less terrifying with spots.

I'm actually pretty pleased with the design and execution, despite my fear of her. It's once again done on the Canson paper (which I hate, but in trying to use it up I've gotten better with it) and I only ended up using 8 markers (including the colourless blender). Normally I use 20 or so in order to shade properly, but the 3 marker challenges have upped my game in single-marker-shading (on this paper, at least). Yay, progress!

*knows absolutely nothing about fashion*

Still two commission slots open before I close them to work on the Copic Awards submission (not that I haven't been working on it in the meantime regardless >.>). Also, if you commission me then I won't have time to draw more weird mermaids, so you'll be doing the world a favour there.
