I got the idea from this Tumlbr post about an AU where Janna sumbles upon the spellbook, and I thought it was so good not to make it a comic

Concept: Janna Vs. The Forces of Evil.
Life of Echo Creek prankster Janna changes when she finds a mysterious magical journal. She soon discovers that it’s not a scam as the magic written inside of is legit and it works.
In the first episode, since the book is too huge and heavy, she asks to her dorky/nerdy schoolmate Marco Diaz to scan the entire thing and convert it to an “e-book”-thingy for her smartphone, so she can easily consult it whenever she wants. Unfortunately, the boy mistakenly reads a dark spell that turns his arm into a tentacle-demon. Janna menages to fix it, but the demon remains dormant inside of him. Marco is therefore reluctantly forced to join her not-so-liked schoolmate to find a cure.
Things get a bit more complicated when the book turns out to be a beacon for bad magical forces and villains, all bent on using the knowledge inside of it for their own evil schemes. So Janna and Marco basically accidentally become the caretakers of the book and the only line of defense between us and the end of the world as we know it.
Also, since this is all very clichéd anyway, Janna finds out that she’s the only one who can cast magic by reading the spells not directly from the book, hence why her “e-book” thingy works.
