Totally not late for the bandwagon or anything. And totally not spamming Wicked fanart.
Anyway, I went so sloppy on this challenge that I can't even look myself in the eye and say it's in all honesty good. I guess drawing ten fanarts for the same thing got tedious towards the end. I've never had the patience for challenges, but since I'm obsessed right now - and since the prompts here were awesome - I decided to make this one.
Short comments on every fanart apart from that Fiyero one because there's no such universe in which I would speak shortly about Fiyero's awesomeness:
1. Yep, Schwartz's Fiyero, one of my favourite fictional male characters of all time. I'm saying "Schwartz's" not "Maguire's", because they're two different characters to me. Even disregarding the absence of tattoos on the theatre version. Paradoxically, even though prose gives more time and space to develop characters, to me Maguire's Fiyero is kind of a one-dimensional sweetheart (still, a sweetheart); while the play version is one of the most pleasingly complicated and interesting musical characters I've had the pleasure to know. He's not thoughtless at all, no matter what he says. He's intelligent enough to be cynical; cynical enough to play stupid so that people will leave him alone; but then smart and sensitive enough to notice when it's time to give up on his cynicism and fight for what's (or who's) important to him. First he's far more purposefully opportunistic than Galinda. Then he scolds her opportunism ("You know who could!" sdfghjkdsfhjnbxdfgnm), but still doesn't have enough strength to refuse his friend and make her unhappy. Then he finds courage and May, just shut up, shut up about your fictional crush sdfghjkjhgfdfghjkljhgfd. I could go on about this character for paragraphs and produce at least a half-decent essay.
Of course, I admit that his initial evasiveness in the Elphie/Glinda triangle does make him kind of a douche for leading the latter on, but then again his flaws are consistent and add up to being a well-rounded character.
I drew the theatre, untattooed version of him. Also, tanned (a small nod towards Maguire), blonde, curly and with a barely visible five-o-clock shadow. I have him headcast, ok? Bear with my vision. ._.
2. I. Hate. Nessa. Both versions. Yes, she wasn't the actual threat. Yes, she was poor and misunderstood. Still, what she represents is so against everything I stand for that I can't force myself to light even a tiny spark of sympathy towards her. Blind religious fanaticism in one version, building awfully codependent relationships in the other. I... just can't.
3. Ok, as random as it gets, but I just wanted to draw a cheerful Elphie. She deserves some cheer too. And as cheerful Elphies are creatures rarely to be sighted in their natural surroundings, they often get confused with OOC Elphies. Which I apparently did.
Also I kind of like torturing the characters I love and Fiyero fell victim.
4. This challenge needed more Glinda. Enough said.
5. Oh, come on, you know Boq asked for it.
6. My fangirl feelings towards this pairing cannot be fathomed in any number of squeals from 1 to infinity. They're one of the few cute couples I totally root for. Therefore I'm in denial about the ending Maguire had in store for them. Didn't exist. They deserve a happy ending. The ending of the play, bitter as it is, at least involves them walking away together in the direction of the setting sun, and that's something I can settle for.
Also, "No Good Deed". It never fails to make me cry. Bawl even.
Gelphie is a close second on my ship list.
7-9. I kind of wanted to do something completely different on each of these topics but it all collapsed around number 8. My idea here was "Nessa vs house"; however, to my dismay, while browsing through other people's challenges I discovered it already had been done. Forced to give up on it, I whipped up this cute little story involving a not so ninja!Gelphie and a Fiyero doing what guys tend to.
10. There was also supposed to be a Boq hanging down from Fiyero's leg and a Nessa trying to bring them all down (wooooaahooooooh!), but I got lazy. Just like on the rest off the pic.

Yes, I know all the swear words that come to people's minds at the sight of the colouring here. There's no other justification than my laziness; but I had a laugh and some fangirl squeals doing it, so the challenge was worth it.
