Description
Brijeka has been trying to persuade me to make maps of my (as of yet un-named) world building project for years, and so at long last, here is the first very small portion of mapped world
------------
Info and a bit of world law:
As is true for most fantasy maps drawn in this style, the mountains (and trees/other geological features) are not to scale but are simply drawn to show where the mountains/trees are on the land, if the art was scaled corectly the mountains would be smaller and the trees would be dots
This is intended to be a human drawn map and the distance of 1 league is a league as standardised by the exsplorers guild in the southern citys, defined as the average distance a human can walk on flat ground at an ordenary pace in 1 hour, in modern day earth terms this would be around 3 miles
This map includes the very eastern edge of the Smeltn'raiders land, off the Western edge of this map Mt' Smelt can be found, where the river get's it's name. The Goblin Kingdoms borders are not so precicely defined, rarther they are subject to momentairy changes based on the current thoughts of Smokey the border guard, and a seemingly random placement of signs. However, in most situations you're considered to be within Smeltn'raiders land once you pass the old road to the first disused mine when sailing West down the river. This is hard to miss because it's clearly marked by large slag/spoil heaps and abandoned equipment. The mountains south of the river have two more abandoned mines, long since spent of useable ore, before you reach Mt' Smelt
On the coast line exists a few isolated settlements on the far northern reaches of the trade route. One is the Human town of Northport Cove, the inhabitents of which claim ownership over the Gold fields and mine placer. The other settlement is the Dwarven fort Deepdale, both directly trade with the Smeltn'raiders for copper to sell on in the southern citys to help supply the rise of steam
Also seen on the coastline is the ruined sea fort, no one knows who built it or when, and it's to far damaged to be worth the efort of repair. Sea goblin captain Tar reguarly uses the large caves underneath it (big enough to sail his ship into) to stash loot, hide from people and undergo repairs. Other pirates and smuglers have also been known to use the area
And speaking of pirates, the sea in this region is particuarly dangerous because of both the wealth of the trade ships that pass through, and the pirate stronghold on the island in the middle of the Reef of the Sea serpent (I don't want to call it Tortuga or Blood Island, but I'm open to ideas for a name). Only pirates know the secrate of how to safely navigate both the razor sharp reef and the sea serpent to reach the small land mass safely. That specific section of the trade route is among the most feared because the pirates will use canon fire to drive ships away from the narrow shipping channel to reck on the rocks. Although there are often trechorous storms in the northen reaches of the world and ice bergs in winter, so it's not uncommon for merchant ships who's captains don't know well the waters to reck with out the help of pirates, as a result of this there are a fair few reckers camped in the mountains along the coast who make a healthy living from selling on goods that wash up on the beaches
At this point I think I've mentioned just about everything on the map except for the Deep Wood, this map shows only a tiny portion of it's unmistakeble vastness (most of which is likely to never be mapped), and there are many perils to be found in among the trees. Here you see one of the wooded swamp regions, no doubt home to monsters. Spiders webs are drawn to caution travelers of the giant spiders that live in the darkest areas of the forest, and many a goblin fears the enchantments woven by the elves and cast upon the lake that is known as Shining waters to protect their stronghold from the dark creatures of the woods
