Blog post discussion related to this: [link]
----

I am doing this note, tutorial for my friends who have fight sequences in their manga but don't know how to do it.

----

I only came to realize how little there is out there on this topic on the net, after talking to a friend of mine about her manga she wants to do, but have struggles with action sequence designs.
When i search, i couldn't find good tutorials right away, that's a sign that people don't talk about this. Most of us who got ok at it just purely learned on our own, and usually does not discuss in tutorial form i believe. Those who are good are too busy doing work for others.

So here's some of my free tips for those who wants it.

I can't say i am particularly good at designing action sequences, but at least i don't have major problems...

As long as i am not doing...
Stare...SLASH, enemy falls.... fight ends.

ERRRRRRK... that's the cheapest.... scene... ever.

(Edit: But One Piece used it with Zoro. lol It works somewhat with Samurai fight style, and you don't need a great fight design for a great story, but it requires no skill in designing this kind of fight, I don't recommend using it and I will not use it personally.)

this helped alot im making a manga atm and its my first time doing so. i still havent mastered drawing the body and stuff but i really got the hang of it xD but whats hard is to know how each character look like from different angles. and i keep drawing too big and stuff and its hard to get both of the characters in one panel because i tend to draw very big, because if i dont its gonna look very very small and stupid but the reason why im making a manga instead of drawing a drawing of bodyparts a thousand times and sorry for this long comment

your problem is a basic drawing problem. Try to construct the characters like they do at Disney and you might have an easier time.

He does fighting just fine, but his sword fight is "out of this world," that's his style.
YES, some of Zoro's earlier fights was bad, (namely, vol 1) zink, woosh, done, that was "bad" as in,
99% of the mangaka could have done it. It's bad fighting design, but not bad paneling.
It wasn't a bad manga because he used the angle, the techniques well.
Luffy's earlier fights were better.

Later all of Oda's fight design got a lot better though.
But no one will expect his fighting to be like say... Cowboy bepop, where the realistic fight routine is designed by a real martial artists. That takes more knowledge, more consideration, thus in my opinion makes much better fight design.

I'm trying to find a tutorial that will give the basics of showing movement in sketches. In your sketches you've used a lot of action lines and movement and blocks and that's what I'm looking to learn, but I keep finding tutorials about lines of action (for posing characters) or action lines (the really basic straight or radial lines used in manga) - I'm looking for what you've got a great example of here! Lines that don't just show action in a panel, but action in a single limb, or torso, or head. Do you know of any tutorials like that?

no idea. O_o
Sorry can't help you there, i don't find good action sequence design tutorial that's why i made one quite frankly.
You can research on "gesture drawing" or " animation sketches" and you will find stuff like this: [link]

Not tutorials but it uses the principles which you might need.
