I may be young but, you should try keeping the blowing effect going so that it looks like there's a breeze.

Some of the strand ends tend to whip a little too much, but everything else looks great. o.o

oh it does it to me too, that's why this animation isn't done in one single shot setting. ^^bb Resting is for a longer journey.

I think the biggest disjoint for me is the fact that it takes so long for the top of his scalp to move. Like a few frames too long.

it looks good in general. nice attempt.
here's my advice, have u ever seen how seaweed moves in ocean currents? they have this distinct 'c' curve when it moves to one side and then a 'snap' 's' curve when the current stops it and then a 'c' curve as it moves to the other side. and the process repeats. its kinda hard explaining in words. u have to observe it. if u need more help doin wave-like animation then drop me a note.

thats pretty sweet. i think its decent.
i dont like how the hair just rests for that time period though.
i dont know how noob you are at animation... i know you are a super talented artist so as long as you practice your timing and antics im sure you could become a good animator. but i would suggest purchasing the animators survival kit. best book i bought in a long time.

I have it. ^^b Perhaps I should flip into it more, the last I looked, there are more on figure and the way it interacts with the fabric and hair, I learned the whip animation effect briefly from school, but there wasn't enough reference for me to nail it down yet.

i like it alot, but it think i'd look even better if after the first gust of wind it wouldnt come all the way down and keep blowing. :3

ultranic-comics [2006-12-30 22:32:49 +0000 UTC]
Its a nice start, but the hair is so clumped together and rigid. The flow of the wind doesnβt seem natural and the hair seems forced to move uncomfortably. There should be more bounce when the gust of wind hits and you should encourage individual hair strands to move instead of just the hairstyle in general to move.
Heres a relative example as to what I mean about natural flow. [link]

that's why I am restarting.
Thanks for the crit, it's about the same as how I would crit myself, knowing it and getting there... they seem to be two different things. @_@b
Thanks for the example, that helps.

Sorry, it was the best one I had available.
Watching introductory animation shows usually have that waving hair effect going on your could reference. Or you could just simulate it from observing real life, but thatβs usually a little more difficult.

mayshing In reply to ultranic-comics [2006-12-30 23:10:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's difficult unless there's a break down of action to see the still shots. #_#bb
I studied the effect of fabric and waving, but appearantly doing a head full of shorter hair is very different from a cape or a piece of cloth.
