I love this more sketchy look to your style in this piece Mayumi! She is stunning with those large, sparkling blue eyes. It has such a lovely and old fashioned feel that reminds me of the old master sketches.

I'm enjoying participating in Sketch Fest every month. It gives me a chance to explore different ideas, and gives me a chance to focus on shapes, angles, values, and such instead of focusing on details. Thank you for your lovely comment, Kayla

I always look forward to seeing what you and Katerina come up with each month. I've been wanting to get back into trying some pencil work myself and just haven't had the time for it yet. Sketching is great for all the reasons you listed just the artist in me feels like mine are never good enough. Even if it's the same type of thing someone else did I feel like mine is to messy and unfinished

I do feel the same about my sketches when I look at other artists' sketches, especially someone who I admire. I feel that I have much to improve, and that is true because there is always something to learn. I try not to get discouraged, though. Instead, use it as a motivation and practice more

I have no problem looking at superior paintings and thinking I really want to paint to get to that level. I guess just since I have done much pencil drawing in a long time I'm a little insecure there I definitely agree that knowing you can do better is the best way to improve though.

The 'Mask' effect is very successful, the eyes reach out and hold you by the shoulders and make you look at it all.
