I tried to make an AzuManga Daioh dojinshi once, with the girls going through college life. However, at the time, my writing as well as drawing skills both sucked very bad, and I abandoned the project.
After re-discovering Azumanga Daioh, I decided to try again, this time five years after the official end of the series.
This actually took me an hour and a half to draw.
You see, this is why I don't draw fanart often (aside from VGcats); I have difficulty adapting characters that don't have super-obvious traits that were originally created in a different style.
I tried really hard to make Sakaki LOOK like Sakaki, and not just some random tall girl with long hair.
Regardless, yeah, later this year I'll get on it.
On another note, I'm sorta sick right now, which is affecting my mood to draw -_-

When Sakaki went to Okinawa on a trip, she encountered an Iriomote wildcat that not only did not want to bite her, it allowed her to pet him and carry him in her arms.
Unfortunately, Sakaki couldn't bring the wildcat with her home, because it was an endangered species. However, that was not the last we saw of him (the wildcat).
Later on in the series, it is revealed that the wildcat has been orphaned after Sakaki left, and has somehow managed to track Sakaki down, accepting her as his new mother.
Sakaki named the wildcat 'Mayaa', from 'Yamamayaa', the Okinawan word for 'Wildcat'.
I really, REALLY like Mayaa. He always looks tough yet cute at the same time, and he helped a lot in developing Sakaki's character by bringing out her motherly side.
Mayaa will of course make an appearance in Azu Manga Dojin, and will continue to be as playful as ever.

So my roommate reads Azumanga Daioh, but I was never really interested in it until your posts, so I read the first volume last night.
And the second one.
And the third.
And most of the fourth.
And finished the fourth this morning.
