Description This thought came to mind recently when I was thinking about all the recent popular culture depictions of dragons(E.g. Smaug, Game of Thrones dragons, etc.). Most have the anatomy of a Wyvern(two legs, two wings), but are still referred to as 'dragons'. Whereas 'actual' dragons are suppose to have four legs like a quadruped 'and' two extra limbs for wings, like the Spyro we all know and love. Don't get me wrong, I really don't mind the - dare I say it - more realisitic Wyvern anatomy they gave these characters. In fact, with regards to Smaug,  I love it.

Now... imagine how different everything would've been if Insomniac Games went for the Wyvern design and still called the game, 'Spyro the Dragon'. The mechanics would still be the same but think of how charging in the classic games would look like, or the combat in the Legend of Spyro to that extent. Then imagine how all the rest of the characters would look in this design. I'm no sure why I took the time to share this, but I thought it was a neat concept to chew over.

Interesting idea, even if I'm not really in fond of wyverns xD

Don't forget his swimming would also be different. I just wonder how that'd be so.

Hmm, good point. I guess he would perform a worm movement through the water.

You have some great subtle shading in the face. Your last couple of traditional pieces have impressed me! I look forward to seeing what you manage with a tablet.

Maybe I'll sketch a wyvern cyn at some point, i think her design would lend itself well to it

Aww, thanks Goldie. I just wanted to get something out quickly and practice with my sketchbook. I think I've gotten the hang of shading with pencils. I've drawn on a Tablet, isn't that what my previous digital art is?

Yeah! Draw Cynder like that, Goldie.  I reckon you could make it look quite cool.

Ahh, in that case no, I haven't used a tablet. I am looking at a particular graphics tablet. It'll be great when I can get these programs.

Remember, one of the older ones.

Not this stupid thing.

I have both that and this:

www.amazon.com/Wacom-Intuos-To…

And the latter is SO much better. The buttons are so much less annoying and the pen is worlds beyond the newer model. (why they took off the buttons and eraser I don't know. Unless it was to sell the separate pen with the good features for a hundred bucks, which they are trying to do...)

Thanks a bunch, I'm glad you like it, Epic.  I was trying my best to get that classic look form the first game.

So his tail spike would be more of a scorpion like venom barb! Sounds cool!

Ohhh, is that what wyverns can do? I had no idea. I was just thinking of the anatomy of the limbs and how recent dragons are depicted that way. Whelp, you learn something everyday.

ViperSwan In reply to Maze-Eye [2017-02-09 02:21:55 +0000 UTC]

Heck yeah! The traditional wyverns had barbs on the end of their tails! Dragon history is fascinating!!
