Description The Pier - The Hangover
********************************

The Urangan Pier at Hervey Bay - Built in 1917 to export sugar, coal and timber.
Original length 1124 metres
Present length 868 metres
Current use for fishermen, walkers, photographers and tourists.

I took the unusual step for me of getting up before dawn - hoping for a beautiful sunrise. It didn't happen. Instead I found a place where I could have a go at some 'street photography'.

Hope you like them. I'm about 90% happy. Critical comments would be most welcome.

All photos initially cropped and levels/curves improved in photoshop then imported into lighroom and lots of playing and then exported back to finish in photoshop. I changed the sepia tonings and gave all photos a quick mask/gradient/gaussion blur look. It was fun but my eyes are now about to pop out of my head

Great shot, I really like the focus/blur effect and nicely balanced contrast.

Was it shot with a spot filter? I notice the light post is out of focus but people farther away seem in focus?

Its really great image.

This is stunning. The man lying down really adds something a bit extra to the photo.

Thanks Rik. He really was flat out asleep - heaps of people had walked past him and he didn't move a muscle - must have been a real heavy night - surely he could have found a more comfortable spot to sleep it off

Up before dawn??? Obviously someone has hijacked this account

The photo has a very nostalgic feel to it Marian

I CAN do it if I need/want. Mind you today - cause I got to bed about 1am playing with photos last night - I didn't get up till 11am I'm back at work next week - I think I'm going to die

For once I knew what I was going to do and what sort of photos I wanted (the street style since the sun wasn't there). And because I was using my wide lens it didn't look totally like I was taking photos of the people

That's still 10 hours sleep Marian

I'm always wary taking photos that may include people - you never know how people will react.

yeah but that means next week to get the same sleep I need to get to bed at 8pm - that will never happen

You do know that you can't keep sleeping in and hope to build up "Sleep Credits"

love the shot! and the camera! what camera did you use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mazmoore In reply to alekzis [2009-01-14 14:46:41 +0000 UTC]

Thanks - I use a Canon 350D with a 10-20mm Sigma wide lens (which is silly when you see that I eventually cropped the shots to be squares )
