not sure about the category. guess i could have gone with either Still Life or Landscapes and Scenery too. ah well...

thanks! that's what is fun about conte. there is only earth tones in there, but it gives the impression of a lot more color.

Very nice. Any tips on using charcoal?

I've always had a hard time working with the stuff. And that does look well done, you seem to know what you are doing with it.

this piece is a lot more conte than charcoal, and the charcoal is charcoal pencil... easier to deal with.

If you want more control with charcoal, try using charcoal powder and cotton balls or swabs. Also, vine or willow charcoal is easier to handle than compressed charcoal... much more forgiving.
