Description

My submission for contest, show me your dragon form. For the contest, I chose to do my classic Red Dragon Vraal'dir.

While a classic red dragon may seem rather plain(and the rules do say creative), I really felt like a red dragon(particularly Vraal'dir) would be the dragon form I'd pick. I've always loved red dragons, Dungeons and Dragons(majorly the dragonlance universe) were a heavy inspiration for my dragon designs(as well as other artists here on Deviant art(shout out to specifically, following your drawings have given me drive to further improve my dragon's anatomy)). The background took several inspirations, Waterton lake(Alberta, Canada) was used partly as inspiration and a easter egg was hidden in the drawing(a mountain similar to chief mountain in Alberta). One of Vraal'Dir's key traits is the Tail blade, which functions both as a weapon for defence and rudder used in combination with the tails strong musculature to help maneuver through the air or maintain stability on long flights.

One of the things that I would want to do is experience life as a dragon, be able to see things from a different perspective. Among those would be flying, the freedom of being able to explore the world at my leisure(expect the winter of course, one of the downsides of being a scaled dragon). On a honest note, I think just having the ability to experience life from a different perspective than the one we're used to would be the best part of becoming a dragon. To do something that we can only imagine, to fly without needing a aircraft, to breath intense flames(or whatever breath weapon suits your fancy), or to be strong enough to carve stone with your claws. There are many things that I think we would do if given the opportunity to live as dragons(or any creature besides being our usual human selves), It would be an incredible experience to have the opportunity to see life from a different view.

your welcome, I think your drawings are really good and should get more attention.

thanks, Grenyol, I try my best. Though backgrounds are still a problem for me, need more practice there.

I completely understand, I still struggle with backgrounds. Just thinking about having to draw one makes me shudder xD

I would recommend using environment references, or actually going out and taking some pictures yourself to draw from (I cant stress how helpful it's been for me, especially if you go on holiday!)

I did that with some of it, like the lake and a mountain or two. But its something I need to practice more for sure.

Something about the classics makes us come back to them, though I love it! and I also love you have hidden easter eggs in the background! You also made me think about how shapeshifting would change perspective. Never thought of that, but I think you're right

Thanks queen. I tried my best with this one, it took a while, but I think it turned out pretty good. It took me a while to think of what I would do as a dragon, looking at your glue breath example. That's how I ended up thinking about how it would change my view as a person, cause honestly I think most of us would be so confused or exhilarated from the experience that we probably wouldn't know what to do really. The question really did get me thinking about the idea of what I would do in such a case.
