i didn't research it, but back in the late 60's i think Deep Purple was too 'heavy' and too into dark symbolism so they didn't get played on general audience radio stations, contrary to say, the more Irish fairy tale types of ProgRock groups, For some reason back then i really wanted a Deep Purple t-shirt but only got a Tequila Sunrise recipe t-shirt, so not as cool looking as a Deep Purple t-shirt. It was common back then for Parents to forbid listening to Heavy Rock.
