Description This set is for
www.deviantart.com/magnus-stri…  for making me write down the idea.
And for

www.deviantart.com/2ndcircle  for making me actually create the art around it.

Nephy’s story of her fourth life as Nefertanis, as I recount a conversation on July 12th 1963

Nephy has been moody and quiet over these past weeks. Last month, Nephy and I had gone to see Cleopatra with Elizabeth Taylor at the movie house downtown and I am certain that it is the reason for her behavior.

            “Betty honey”

            “Yes Nephy”

“I’m sorry for my mood for the last few weeks. But it is difficult for me to deal with my story with Cleopatra”

“I figured as much lover, and it’s Ok. I’m certain not everything must have gone well in thirty three hundred years and your 10 prior lifetimes.” I said looking up at her.

“No! Not everything went well but my time with Cleopatra probably changed me more than at any other time. Until I met you that is.” She said smiling.

“Well I’m not surprised you did know her. She was such an important historical figure.”

“Actually by then Egypt wasn’t what it used to be. Almost provincial actually. I was the one in the background who pushed many of the players together. I mean by then I had centuries of behind the scenes machinations, and my desire had been to make Egypt great again. But I failed spectacularly.”

            “How so?” I asked

Nephy laughed ruefully. Her eyes looking towards the southeast and Egypt.

“I forgot that people have emotions, desires and wants and frankly Cleopatra’s didn’t mesh with what I wanted. She enjoyed the men fighting over her but she really was only interested in finding love and having a family.”

“That’s not what the history books say?” I mentioned.

“True but then I helped write that history. I wanted the decline of Egypt to end with a bang and not a whimper as they say today.” She looked back towards me

“You remember when I mentioned her in my museum when I first brought you there to convince you of who I was and that history did not know where she was buried.”

“Well of course as she is in your museum. But you never did tell me why, and frankly I was in too much shock with all you were telling me back then to really register whose sarcophagus it was.”

“Well after her death. I learned that the Romans planned to take her body back to Rome. However, the reality of it was they wanted to erase her from history and dump her body at sea as the ship travelled to Rome. They were embarrassed that so many had been caught, in what they believed, was her snare against Rome when it had been all my plans that I used her in to implement. That’s one of the reasons I wrote her story. Repeatedly, under different names, over the centuries, and commissioned arts with her as the subject. To make certain that she was never forgotten.”

“So a few days after her death, I stole her body with the aid of some the women in my organization and buried it in a secret location in Egypt, where she remained until I was able to bring her here a few centuries ago.”

“That was such a failure that I stopped being a power broker and just coasted for a few centuries living off my wealth in Egypt. Although sometimes I would live as a wealthy merchants wife or even a courtesan. But I no longer enjoyed the politics of the world, and went searching for interesting people to get to know.”

Nephy once again looked towards Egypt and then at me.

“Until I met you Betty, I’m not certain I ever did love anyone for all that I thought I did many times.”

“Nephy love… Don’t let the story of Cleopatra bring you down. I know you have deeply loved many times in your lives.” I smiled at her. “Just don’t tell them all to me as I just might get jealous.” I said smiling while getting up and hugging her.

“Come on let’s get you into a better mood and head out and enjoy a nice meal at one of the street bistros’ and maybe we can find a young up and coming artist to do a portrait of both of us.”

Nephy laughed as we grabbed our bags and headed out into Marseille’s early evening.
