Description Well it is finally done my [crappy] watercolouring of Pyro from Team Fortress 2.
This is my first very first watercolour that I've finished, I've done others but they were all quick things, and or never finished.
So, I guess it's cool. :/ It's done, that is all I'm happy about.
I really hope you can tell that the camera angle is looking down at him, it looks weird.. Bleh.

Don't worry, it's Pyro. People like to see Pyro in different mediums.

Are you new to watercolor?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

McCreeCat In reply to jessdel [2012-12-31 08:05:40 +0000 UTC]

Um, yeah I'm fairly new.
I've had a few small watercolour works, I also did a watercolour piece before back when I was in school, and I was very proud of it. My teacher marked it low on grade, because it wasn't finished.
It kind of ruined my feelings for watercolour, since I worked on it so hard, and that bloody teacher ruined my whole perspective on my art. :/

jessdel In reply to McCreeCat [2012-12-31 08:15:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh... It's a shame for your teacher to do that. Did you even ask her for extra time? Did she lay heavy critique?

Watercolor's a fun medium and it's great to work with once you discover and learn techniques. You can forget her when you practice, because practicing in a good mood makes it better (*for me, idk for you). If you're curious about it, I can probably answer some questions you have.

It was a he, and he always seemed to have a keen dislike for me. He would always be so kind to the 13th year students, and then me as a 11th year kid, he always seemed to pick on my art style. I am always slow with my work, and so doing thinks takes me a while, he never understood that not every artist can go a mile per hour. He was a real jerk, he kind of made me hate art, to be honest.

I did learn a few things from that art class, a few good techniques. I'm more of a digital artist, but I do appreciate you offering help. That is really kind of you. I hope you don't mind if I give you a watch, you seem like someone I wouldn't mind talking to later on.

jessdel In reply to McCreeCat [2012-12-31 08:37:37 +0000 UTC]

It's unfortunate that art teachers like that exist. They're supposed to open gates for people, not close them. Favoritism is also a no-no in that situation. They should foster love, not hate. You don't deserve that, no one does. I had an art teacher (but not as bad as yours) who changed my colors on a painting and made me take longer than expected. Her constant editing of my work back when I was a sophomore irritated me, because she had a strong realism leaning. So I do understand a glimpse of what you've experienced.

At least you learned, and I learned too. For me, I started traditionally, but I've taken up digital art almost 2 years later, so I favor both. Thank you for the watch and I'm totally fine with talking about stuff.

McCreeCat In reply to jessdel [2012-12-31 08:50:55 +0000 UTC]

Exactly, my teacher was the same way, I love anime and fan art, apparently that isn't 'art' to these teachers. They only accept anything if it's real life. I happen to despise real life to be honest, hah, so I had the worst time being forced to draw realism.
I would be insane if I had a teacher like that.
Thanks to this guy, I never want to to another art class again.
The worst thing of all, he made me cry... In front of all the class. His standard was that us students had to visit an art gallery four times throughout the school year. He said that using DeviantART was against the rules. We HAD to do this, or we would loose our grade.
My mum was working a bunch, my dad out of the picture, I was living in government paid housing, on food stamps and wellfair, and then this man told me I had to go out of my way, a 15 year old who had no means of driving himself around, and no one to take him. I was poor, I had been living in a motor home throughout the winter, and I was broke enough as is. I had already had issues with school, and this teacher stood with me off to the side of the class, and said I would loose my A grade unless I went to a gallery. He was insane! All of his threats against my grade with my inability to attend a gallery had me in tears after a few minutes.

I'm sorry about that story.. Hah... It just upsets me, a lot, what that guy did.

Yeah, I was into traditional art a lot back when I was younger, but I like Digital the best, it just has the quality I like with the flexibility I want. Sweet, I'm glad I made a friend today.
To be honest, I'm really shy on DA.

That's unimaginably horrible... He demanded that out of you when you were no position to do that. Did you even report this to the office? That's just sad. It's intolerance and harassment! That experience must be painful for you to cry...

I'm very sorry to hear that, and it's horrible that your view was twisted that way.

Yes, I was drawn to digital for those same reasons, but for another I can't draw directly on it. I feel like I needed a scanned sketch before I do anything. I'm glad I made another friend here too. I guess being shy on here has its benefits.

Well yeah, I was crying so bad he let me out of class. My grandmother works for the school in the counseling office, I told her during my time out of class, but I don't think she did anything about it. :/ He worked there for the rest of the year, but he later left because he got accepted elsewhere. Yeah, crying in front of all my peers was really upsetting, he was despicable.

Yep, I'm still trying to get past it.

Yeah! I have that same issue, I've learned an easy way to do lineart for the computer though. Also, what editing software do you use? Hah sometimes, mostly it gets me really embarrassed.

Unfortunate... Staff issues are same even across the pond. Glad he's gone. I hope you can heal more this year. Happy New Year!

That's great! I tend to use SAI cuz I have shaky hands and the stabilizers are great for that, but I also use Photoshop CS5. It takes a while to get out of your shell, but believe me, it's worth it. I think I'm bolder here than RL lol.

Yeah, I use Photoshop CS5. as well, it's great! Yeah, I'm that way on Facebook, I'm well known and can say whatever. I'm new to DeviantART, and I feel weird sharing my art. Heh.

Yeah, I'm from there. I had to move like 6 years ago. I still have an accent and all, I plan on moving back when I'm old enough. It was a forced move, due to money issues.

Yeah, I use another program for art it's called MikuMikuDance, I make models for it, so I post that every so often. I wish I had Gmod though.
