Nothing is sacred to the mages of the north, and their experiments know no bounds. Even the great mothers of flame, who are said to be children of the sun itself, have been sought and captured, only to be experimented on as if they were a rare metal or lifeless gem. For years the mages studied and performed test and experiments on these phoenixes, but they did not do this in order to learn about or harness the flame that burns hotter then that of dragons fire. For the phoenix is known for something even greater, being immune to death itself. So the wizards conducted numerous studies, hoping to find the secret greater then the Elves eternal youth.

Even the Elves, ageless as they are, can be slain by sword or claw, but not so the phoenix, for every time it dies it is reborn anew. Many times these tormenting tests killed the phoenix, but it always came back to life, renewing the mages lust for that Immortality.
Yet eternal life was not to be, for years they searched, but never came any closer to achieving it. Although the Mages experiments could not bring life, as is so often the case, they did discover something unexpected.

The specifics of the experiments that mutated it are locked away in the great tower, for none but the highest of their order to study, but signs of it are everywhere. A land without summer,perpetually frozen. Howling screeches on the wind of the most furious storms. And whole towns, frozen within a cold tomb of Ice. So, it is a sad and cold Irony, that what started as a way to end death, ended with the Death of thousands. The phoenix, which once held the mysteries of fire and life, was at long last killed, and from its death was born a magical and terrible beast, known as the Frozen Phoenix.
