I read somewhere that Yoda's speech pattern was inspired by medieval English poetry. Just look at the first eighteen lines of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and you'll see what I mean (translation into Modern English included):
Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote
When April with its sweet-smelling showers
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote,
Has pierced the drought of March to the root,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour
And bathed every vein (of the plants) in such liquid
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;

Actually, the words at the top would be "Sign Up Today You Will!" read backwards that one would be "You Will Today Sign Up!" I think...
