The family in the foreground must be that of Mr.Thomas Olney.
He visited that high house -and had tea with Nodens, one of the Elder Gods.

Spot on. Thomas Olney, his stout wife and kid, moving to their new home in Kingsport.

Great piece! Up till now I think all the representations of Kingsport (and especially the high house) I'd seen were more exaggerated and almost Tim Burton-esque, so it is fascinating to see a very realistic feeling depiction. I hope that is as high as the tide reaches. In Gloucester, Massachusetts (nearby to the town of Marblehead, which inspired Kingsport) there is an isolated mansion on top of a rock cliff, although it is only a fraction of the height in your image it is very reminiscent to me.

Thanks! I've googled the mansion you mentioned and found some images; I think I'm not too far away from what Lovecraft had in mind, which tells a lot about the power of his descriptions.
Russel Smeaton also has a cool representation of the house, although it's more Tim Burton than photo realistic, but that's just his style. - tikirussy.deviantart.com/art/T…

I like Russel's treatment as well, his is more stylized whereas yours seems almost like it could be a photo. I like even the very stylized ones, but I think what makes your special is that sense of reality.

Thanks again. I'm starting work on another painting based on 'The Outsider' really soon, and some of your own works ('Ghouls', 'The Guide') might serve as inspiration.

Thanks for the feedback, Russell. That is indeed something I will have to fix. Others mentioned it as well.

No worries! It's a small thing and probably not overly important but with the incredibly high level of detail you achieve it would make the picture just that bit better (in my opinion)
