Description The genus Lystrosaurus was a stem-mammal that not only survived the Permian extinction but went on to thrive in the aftermath, as for a brief while in the early Triassic, about 95 percent of land vertebrate fossils consist of various species of Lystrosaurus. No other genus or species of land animal has ever dominated the Earth to this degree. Later on it was supplanted by newer genera of dicynodonts, as well as various radiations of diapsid reptile.
