Description For the next submission, a screen shot of the giant robot Dangaioh from the OVA series of the same name. For those of you who have just heard of it for the first time, Dangaioh is a lesser known Japanese anime series from the 80s. More accurately, 1987. And this is an OVA that I rented from Hollywood video and saw with my cousins in 1997, which was a whole decade after its release in Japan. Back in the day, we only saw 2 episodes of this series. And it wasn't until many years later when I saw the third and last episode, which ended the series on a bittersweet cliffhanger ending.

The story is four young individuals with incredible powers (Mia Alice, Rol Kuran, Pi Thunder, and Lamba Nom) were abducted from their home worlds. Brainwashed and forced to work as slave mercenaries for an intergalactic empire, the four youths rebelled against their evil overlords, and escaped with four individual vehicles that transform and combine into Dangaioh. Similar to the two Voltrons (Lion and Vehicle respectively) and other combiner robots. One of the main antagonists of the series was a guy named Gil Berg, a cyborg whose body is almost completely robotic save for some organic parts. Gil Berg hates the four protagonists, and will stop at nothing until either they surrender or until they're dead. Gil Berg doesn't care either way. Now, since this series is only 3 episodes long, there's not a whole lot to go on. But I think Dangaioh is a pretty good series that's worth viewing at least once. It has some likable and relatable characters, and the fight scenes (especially the giant robot battles) are very spectacular to watch. And the animation is pretty detailed and fresh for 1987. And that's saying a lot considering its age. I may review this series somewhere down the road for the sake of reflecting on old memories and sharing said memories with friends and watchers.

Dangaioh (c) Toshiki Hirano, AIC, and Artmic.
