WORK IN PROGRESS! Almost done!

Hey guys! I am so busy I can barely see straight...but wanted to take a couple minutes to share what I have been working on!

First of all..if any of you are in southern CA, I will have a booth this coming weekend (Nov. 8th-9th) at Designer Con. My booth # is 1122, and look for the big "Meadowknight Creations" banner behind me with Big Rad Wolf on it. Here is the link to the Dcon website for anyone interested. It's a pretty nicely sized convention, and a lot of fun, especially for the price (only $5 per badge online, $7 at the door)  -> www.designercon.com/ .

I also have a facebook page dedicated to my AMP mini figures. If you check out the photos section I have an album dedicated to the making of this display; if anyone wants to see how it started piece by piece! If you stop by the FB page, please like it, and share it if you have a minute . --> www.facebook.com/AmusingMiniPa… ;

This display is something I've been working on for a little over a month, and of course I got inspired for it too close to the convention...so I'm neck deep in work and pulling many all nighters, lol. The title of the piece is "Portalplasm Ruins", I sculpted a sign to write that on too, which I'm hoping I have time to mold and cast before the convention, lol. My original idea was to create a playset for my Amusing Mini Paranormals mini figure toy line I am creating. It's turned out to be a little more serious of an art piece than a simple playset, and I am super excited about it!  It is still incomplete, but I'll have it done by the end of the weekend. It still needs a little more painting, and I also created 5 sconces that are not attached or shown in this photo (they are rigged with LEDs and waiting to be glued on). The entire thing is built to function with LED lights and some fiber optics! (my first time lighting anything!).  The faces on the right side of the display, I cast in semi clear resin, drilled holes in the backs before attaching them, and hooked up fiber optics in them to bring LED light into the eyes and mouths! The tops of their heads also function as display platforms for the mini figures. The portal at the top will also be lit, and so will the slime waterfalls, and various slime patches on the floor of the display that you can't see at this angle. There will also be some ambient lighting using color changing LEDs.

I placed Shotomoth in the archway to show size . He is only 1.5 inches tall! The set is about 21 inches tall, about 20 inches wide, and about 18 inches deep. The entire thing I coated in resin so it's very sturdy. Nothing pisses me off more than working my butt off on something only to have it break or fall apart over the years, so i put a little extra time and money into it, so it'll last. The shell is foamboard, and cardboard...but I went crazy with resin mixed with filler to coat the entire thing (even the back).  The paint is just acrylics over a primer, and utilizing some colored metallic acrylics in various places to make slimy bits and stoney faces pop. It's going to be a pain but I'll probably brush clearcoat over the entire thing too, to enrich and preserve all the colors...by going over it with gloss, and then flat in areas it needs to be flat. The bricks... I sculpted a handful of, then molded and cast batches, and stuck them into uncured resin i brushed on in thick coats. I also cut up a bunch of foam board bricks, mixed them into the resin + filler...and piled them in various areas for more convincing rubble! (hey the fallen walls had to have piled up somewhere...they can't all be turned to dust ).

Anyways that's basically what I did in a nutshell! I'll get better photos when it's done! The sconces will be placed on each side of the archway (one on each side), and three will be placed on the stairs, every other step! The sconces have flickering red LEDs inside of them to resemble fire . I also sculpted the sconces, they resemble little monster faces! Aside from fun, part of the goal with this is to hopefully draw people to my booth. Most of my art that I sell is on the small side, so I wanted something bigger to catch some eyes, so maybe people will get close enough to see my little stuff, lol. Mainly though, I wanted to create a environment for my AMP figures, to help show the world I imagine them in! Portals play a big role in the story I'm creating, so this is a neat way to also introduce that theme!

Thanks for looking, and hope to see some people at Dcon next weekend . Back to work with me...@_@...

That's looking really awesome, Darlin'!  I am eager to see the final result, complete with lights, and maybe even a pic with some of your AMP's placed here and there on it.
