Description Axel's Firewheels from Kingdom Hearts. Done in 2009 for a commission, I hand cut and carved wood with a jigsaw and a dremmel, sanded, coated with polyurethane, then painted with spray paint. Just about every step of this prop was time consuming and irritating, but I am very proud of the final product. This prop also made me realize that I can spray paint into a cup and apply it like normal paints, since my luck with tape is limited. It was a well-learned lesson that I've had to use several times already.
Haha, that was a bear, I'd take everything off, put a sealer on it, spray paint, peel the tape off, and realize the paint bled under the tape. I went back and forth between the colors several times before I finally just got some cotton swabs and old brushes I didn't mind losing and painted the damn thing by hand. That way I got to keep the immaculate texture that spray paint gives, but could keep it looking clean and accurate.
Speaking of accuracy, I know the blades are narrower than the actual weapon, but my commissioner wanted them to look more lethal.

Well both took a long time to make, but the pink foam is a lot easier and quicker to carve down. The bummer is that you have to be more careful about slip ups, otherwise you'd have to putty in any gaps. The angles in this prop are really difficult, and are even harder when you're straining against a hard wood. Although I may have made it a lot easier on myself if I had used a softer wood back in the day. The original Firewheels are made from oak plywood, and oak is a very dense wood and takes forever to carve, vs pine or poplar which are a lot softer and don't have nearly as much wood grain to sand away. If you're ever trying to make a pair and need advise, feel free to hit me up, I'd love to be of assistance

yeah, I had made a fail one out of paper and a hula hoop and I'm trying to figure out a better way to make them and at a cheap way. :/

Great chakrams! I'm so impressed that you made these out of wood... completely stunned by the amount of skill you have!
