Description Picture taken by the very talented bigwhitebazooka.
BTW, I totally don't look like that. That would be because that is not me, that is my commissioner WingedInfinaty who asked me to make Fang's Beast. This silly lance-thing cost me several years of my life, and quite literally has my blood, sweat and tears poured into it. XD I risked bodily injury quite a few times as a foot long drill bit went flying past my head, a softball hunk of wood turned out to be wormy and sent shrapnel everywhere, or as a scalpel fell off a shelf and scraped my cheek right under my eye. >>
I have a extremely tenative relationship with this prop. It made me cry. A lot. XD
It was literally a beast, and fought me until hours before I was to hand it to the commissioner.
Because of my hectic con and work schedule, I literally started this thing two weeks before its due date...Which meant that I was on overdrive and working until three and four in the morning painting, sanding, shaping and generally going out of my mind for two weeks. I was determined to produce a beautiful portfolio piece that my commissioner would be proud of.
Moments before I was to drive seven hours for AX, one of the spearheads actually fell off. This sent me completely in a tailspin, but a few hours and some epoxy later, that sucker is never going to come off. My efforts to fix this also ruined the paint job in several places, so as soon as I got to my friends house, I immediately spent several hours repainting everything red.
Then I didn't have my normal sealer so I used a acrylic spray and left it outside to dry. The next morning I came out to realize that the night air gathered moisture and turned everything I just painted milky white. T_T
So at seven in the morning, a hour before I was supposed to go register and five hours before the hand-off, I recruited my friend and we desperately had to repaint one side entirely. Haha, thankfully at that point I was so emotionally drained I couldn't be upset, and just worked like a mad dog.
A few gray hairs and several hours later, I finished assembling everything in my car and was able to finally hand off this demon of darkness to its new proud owner. She loved it and had a ball running around as Fang (which she looked beautiful as). XD I'm just so happy to have banished this thing from my life, but I am very proud of my little bastard prop-child.
The lance is about 6 1/2 ft long, and is entirely functional. The blades rotate down onto the staff, and the staff breaks down into three pieces connected by a chain.
