BODY AND APPEARANCE

Charlie is 5’10” formly and 6'9 after enhancement and about 200 lbs. He is in his early thirties and overall in great health. With a lean, muscular build he has developed not only an intimidating form but has also remained physically approachable. He has the naturally tanned skin of someone who spends just as much time outdoors as they do inside, marred only by the three-inch jagged scar across the right side of his face, and a Helljumper tattoo stretching across his left bicep.

He has light brown hair that he wears just a little longer than regulation allows. With the back of his hair kept short, as per standard, and with just enough length to fall around his head in the front, but not long enough to touch his eyes or cover his ears, he’s been able to get away without a superior’s admonition. His eyes are dark brown and always appear to be thinking due to their squinted far off look and his lowered brows.

He moves easily, upright, and alert until something sets him off. When on guard, he’ll hunch his shoulders in, as though ready to protect his core from attack, likely an old habit from his ODST days. His right leg was weakened from an old injury, and he learned to favor it and will always continue to do so, even once healed by Smoke.

MENTALITY AND EMOTION

Charlie is very intelligent, despite only receiving a GED in traditional school. He received his higher education through his military career and further education after that during his ODST training. While not your typical education, this strengthened his mind and kept him mentally active. His mind is built for details and practical solutions, able to remember the smallest facts, and relying on experience over instinct. He always thinks before he acts, and on his own, he prefers to work behind the scenes. He and Smoke have adapted to each other and found a balance in their approaches.

As an introvert, Charlie tends to appear cool and reserved. He remains honest and direct in all situations, placing great value on fairness while easily spotting flaws. More than leaving things open, he prefers to settle all arguments and decisions as quickly as possible. He takes responsibility seriously and is attentive and prompt with his work. You won’t ever find him slacking off while he still has things to do, as he finds comfort in a scheduled life, rather than in one without order.

BELIEF SYSTEM

Charlie’s morals, while not completely black and white, are easy enough to understand. If you can help, you must. If you know better, you’re responsible. If you didn’t think it through, you failed. He was raised religious, and while he can struggle to keep with those edicts with what he does for a living, he hasn’t dropped his faith so far. He prays for his daughters and the safety of his coworkers, feels remorse over casualties, and empathy for their families.

He has strong feelings regarding a person’s role in another’s life, hence his need to protect his daughters. His lack of ability to do so successfully is what pushes him to be overprotective and rather than being content with what feels natural. In the same way, this is also why he does not feel good about outside involvement in anything, such as his views on the insurrectionists, and even to an extent Covenant interactions and human involvement with them. He is especially judgmental of ONI and Halsey for the ways that they meddle in affairs.

RELATIONSHIP DYNAMICS

For Charlie, there can be no doubt that family comes before all else. He prizes their safety and happiness above himself. Being in the military has altered who he perceives as his family; with his squads’ lives in his hands and his life in theirs’, he has also come to consider them as his family, although he isn’t likely to ever acknowledge them as such. This importance has led to a great amount of guilt over his wife’s overdose and takes his new status as widower seriously, seeing it as a failing on his part that he must now fix through his daughters.

While he has formed friendships with several of his coworkers, Charlie has never gotten too close to any of them. He has difficulty forming deep relationships, now even more so than ever. He remains a bit closed off, simultaneously trying to be there for others, but not allowing anyone to do the same for him. He’s the kind of guy who knows nearly everything about the others, with none of them knowing him. This makes him perfectly comfortable being alone while allowing him to remain objective in his decisions and listen to rational arguments rather than just following along with whatever his loved ones feel.
