Description
Getting this shot was a small victory for me, because despite having an asparagus in our garden, this particular spotted asparagus beetle (Crioceris duodecimpunctata) only shows up very rarely. There has always been exactly one specimen at a time and right next to it an entire colony of its cousin common asparagus beetle (Crioceris asparagi). And every time I tried to shoot it something would go wrong, one time our dog put her nose to it, other times it would fly away. But today I found one after heavy rain, so this guy was just crawling, I guess it was soggy, which made it too heavy to fly, but whatever the case was, this photo was the result.
