Stunning surrealism.
A bit like "steam punk" and a bit like fantasy.
Well done.

You really developed this in an actual darkroom? Chemicals, red lights and all? Wow, thats damn impressive!

I love the mood. It's also great how you mixed the old style with the modern. (Hence the dress, the cincher, the gas mask) Nice framing job as well.

Pretty dope image. I love the desaturated, grungey, painted, look to it. Interesting model as well.
Are you shooting with that Yashica?

Well, i'm agree with agonybliss, the dark border is a bit too antagonistic with the photo...but it still a fav for me.

you think it might be a bit much? the vignetting effect i added in photoshop just was not doing it for me, i wanted to add something a bit more gritty.

Yeap maybe a bit much but i know when you pass to much time on a piece youn need oxygene and to start some new works, anyway you can still rework on it in a few times (if you want it, of course !)

eek, you're making me nervous... i just took this down to imagecraft to have a 16x20 made!
i think the print will look better though, you always get so much more detail and tonal range than on a computer monitor.
thank you =]

work in progress eh?
Well, I think the is quite interesting. The dress and shoes show innocence, but the corset adds a hard sexy edge. And the mask is menacing. All together it is a cool affect when you put them all together. Where is she jumping too/from???

you know i almost want to see this on a sepia tone... to take it to another time period and then having the contrast of the subject matter fighting against what you would expect from that time...

thanx... sometimes you tend to lose perspective on your imagery after you've been staring at it in photoshop for a couple of hours...

nice..did you use a lighting filter or just use the burn tool on the outside layer..the effects neat..looks like a holga shot

mechanizedeye In reply to joicarey [2004-02-09 18:00:55 +0000 UTC]
it's all photoshop... i used the selection tool with a feather of 250 pixels, selected the entire image, and then inverted the selection... then i filled it with black and duplicated the layer a couple of times to get the density that i wanted.
yeah, it does look a bit like a holga shot [ironic to use a $3000 camera to get effects i can get with a $20 one]
i think the effect is too clean for me... i want something a bit more gritty around the edges, i just need to figure out what exactly to use...

joicarey In reply to mechanizedeye [2004-02-09 18:36:04 +0000 UTC]
maybe if you just darken by hand instead of using the select tool..i just ordered a holga. nice cheap way to mess with medium format
What are you shooting with btw..Im in need of a main new toy..

mechanizedeye In reply to joicarey [2004-02-09 19:17:05 +0000 UTC]
i want a holga, those things look like so much damn fun... when cash isn't so tight i'm definetly going to spring for one, they're only like what? $20?
i shoot with a pentax 67II medium format slr [link] and a canon t-90 35mm slr. the pentax is a beast of a camera, but the amount of detail you get with a 6x7 image is astounding. not very good for hand-held shots, though, you pretty much have to keep it on a tripod if you're shooting anything under 1/500th of a sec.
