Description post-ME3-high-EMS-red-ending scene
Conceptually related to Andrew Ryan's "Old soldiers"
The idea itself was mine, inspired by Andrew's painting of course.
He gave me numerous advises regarding this scene and I'm very grateful for it.

I made special cropped version, which Andrew posted on his tumblr page

Assets used:

Render time: 5 hours, 6.7 billion rays traced!

This looks crazy. Love it!
Part of me for asking, but what software did you use to compose/render all those models?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MediAsylum In reply to toxioneer [2014-07-30 12:21:15 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't make a secret of this
As this was not the latest of my scenes, so the characters were posed in XPS,
then exported into Foundry MODO701.
John's clothes was conformed to similarly posed DAZ Genesis figure and exported to MODO too.
So the answer is - Foundry MODO for composing and rendering.

Magnificent! I love every representation of Shepard in rehabilitation after the events of the game.

I think that you have been exceptional!

MediAsylum In reply to Rhapsody4u [2013-11-25 14:59:20 +0000 UTC]

Wow. It still getting some feedback
I have another rehab-scene in conceptual stage
and some idea about single Shep scene inspired by some recent fanfiction.
But the next render will be probably not mshenko-themed.

Also right now I'm possessed by ME3, again. So I have almost no time to spare.

And this is exactly that king of compliment which makes me smile happily.

Unfortunately I don't have any advance with all my WIP scenes,
playing ME is very counterproductive type of activity
but there will be quite long holidays in January, so I hope to finish at least one scene.

Ahaha ! it's a pleasure! And you know that I also have taken up playing effect1 mass, to retrace the splendid history from its origins. and Platinize the game. then I wish you happy holidays.

MediAsylum In reply to K4VE [2013-10-26 21:33:56 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. This is neither DAZ, nor XNA render
Yes, I used XNA to pose characters, DAZ clothes for John, extracted meshes/textures,
but environment and render were done in Luxology MODO 701.

I actually teared up at this. Medi, you have conveyed a feeling of hope in this scene that is so strong that I found myself thinking, "C'mon, Shepard -- you can do it!"

Truly a fantastic composition. Bravo!!

fishbone76 [2013-10-25 22:35:24 +0000 UTC]

THAT is beautiful and touching and that means a lot from me because normally I am not paying attention to broshep stuff. I absolutely love everything here, the lighting, the poses, Shepard's outfit, the environment (not too much, not to less).
And now I wish I could have this with femshep/Traynor

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MediAsylum In reply to fishbone76 [2013-10-25 22:57:52 +0000 UTC]

Is my stuff is even THAT attractive?
I don't have any femShep or Samantha's models, and even if I'll find 'em
this "replacement" isn't a simple task to do.
Full posing, texture developing, custom outfits for 2 completely new female characters
would require at least a week for me.
I'm strictly into mshenko now, sorry.

PS: two women means two hairstyles with long hair
and I didn't master combing to recreate it in 3D

I know the feel of working on something you are not into I get a lot of request about pairings I don't ship and therefore know that you can only do these awesome pieces if you are fully devoted to it. And it is clearly visible in thise piece that you are devoted to this pairing.
Sometimes when I see such professionel renders like yours I just wish lazy me would get the willpower to learn how render programs work. But I'm most of the time satisfied with my humble xnalara works

so don't worry i'm fine with this mshenko piece of yours

this piece is georgeous, seriously, it carries so much emotion and love.

This is absolutely stunning! Very well posed, great lighting, great details!
And John and Kaidan are looking so cute

Great work, I'm looking forward to see more of the ME rehab series

MediAsylum In reply to Dat-Taiga [2013-10-20 11:47:23 +0000 UTC]

You use XPS too, so you know, what lies behind "well posed"

That "series" exists only in my ME-obsessed mind.
I shouldn't read mshenko fiction so much.
Considering the time I usually spending to develop single scene...
Let's say, it's my long-term wish.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Dat-Taiga In reply to MediAsylum [2013-10-20 17:31:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, most times it is a lot of work to get a really good posing. And it looks more than good on your render

Oh, but I believe the MShenko-fans would be very happy to see more of this <3

But yes, I know that doing renders needs a lot of time (especially your rendering programm seems to take a lot of time ), but your result was defintely worth the time

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MediAsylum In reply to Dat-Taiga [2013-10-20 17:45:54 +0000 UTC]

I surely can deal with waiting itself.
Not complaining about long render time, it's natural considering all features used.

But as you see all my scenes are complex,
I'm using enough non-ME objects, which require additional time,
to figure out all those physical softbody and particle simulations, volumetric effects,
putting clothes to unrigged mesh, growing believable hair,
even making ~100 screencaps to stitch another panorama.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dat-Taiga In reply to MediAsylum [2013-10-20 17:53:07 +0000 UTC]

They are very complex, yes. I can imagine how much effort it takes to do such a detailed render. And yes, not just the render, there's a lot to do even before you could start posing...

Well, I surely didn't want to force you, sorry if it sounded this way, this was definitely not my intention!

I really just like seeing new stuff from you, that's all

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MediAsylum In reply to Dat-Taiga [2013-10-20 18:03:56 +0000 UTC]

Don't be sorry, I can't stop my mind from thinking about next scene
You see, with all such a long development terms
I definitely like not only the result, but the process too.
Now I just need a little pause.

Dat-Taiga In reply to MediAsylum [2013-10-21 10:46:26 +0000 UTC]

Rambie801 In reply to MediAsylum [2013-10-20 15:37:08 +0000 UTC]

I agree with Dat-Taiga, very nice work!  Lighting is awesome, textures on the objects look great, and nice motion blur of the falling crutch.

MediAsylum In reply to Rambie801 [2013-10-20 15:49:16 +0000 UTC]

Textures are my constant problem
since I've started all this ME rendering.
They are small, too small, ancient consoles be damned.

L2Sentinel [2013-10-20 08:50:26 +0000 UTC]

YES! I love this! John looks so determined, and Kaidan looks so focused. "You can do this. But know that I'll always be here to catch you if you fall."

And I'm always happy to see Chakwas, too. She's such a great character. My John and Kaidan consider her a very close friend.

Really well done. Your textures are amazing, and I really love the scene you created. You were inspired by Andrew's piece, but this is very much your own concept. Fantastic work!

MediAsylum In reply to L2Sentinel [2013-10-20 10:00:09 +0000 UTC]

Andrew and me went through 6 pose versions in XPS only
(not counting minor post-export adjustments)
and 20+ previz renders
Maybe you are all lucky to see this scene when it's finalized.

Didn't think of Andrew as "resource", it sounds... inanimate.
