Description Fifty years ago, the damaged Apollo 13 craft, comprising the command-service module (CSM) Odissey and the lander module (LM) Aquarius, was preparing to use the LM thruster for its transearth injection and departure from lunar orbit, heading back home. Two days earlier, an explosive rupture of one of the oxygen tanks damaged the fuel cells. Facing extremely low power and limited water reserves, the crew of three braved near-freezing conditions inside the spacecraft as the landing mission was cancelled for the crew to return back immediately. With dwindling oxygen scrubbers on the CSM, the crew and ground control had improvised a functional scrubber using parts intended for the journey to the lunar surface. As Odissey and Aquarius passed by Mare Crisium and Mare Fecundidatis, the crew took pictures of the grey cratered surface.
