"I promise to hold you together."There were some REALLY bad storms rolling through last week (and working at the zoo...makes it much scarier ;A; ) So this is some vent art for that''''
Based on a headcanon I saw a while ago (can’t find it’’’) Shiro having some PTSD flashbacks from passing through a thunderstorm (in space…that’s possible right? Or maybe a planet they're spending the night at??) Of course he’ll never say anything so Pidge ends up lying about being scared of thunderstorms instead. That way, Shiro doesn’t feel bad about clinging to someone because he thinks he's helping, even when he’s actually the one getting help :’) (+cuddles…love drawing cuddles)
Also, Pidge is wearing froggy pajamas <3 I have no idea where she got them, maybe Lance made them from some spare fabric scrounged up on some distant planet X''D
Now if people would STOP TAGGING THIS AS SHIPPING this show does not need shipping omg please stop and there is a BIG AGE DIFFERENCE HERE *deep breaths*

Just a few hours ago, everything had been silent. But now a storm raged outside the castle with an intensity unlike any of the storms on planet Earth. Shiro tossed and turned in his sleep, the violent thunder mixing with his nightmares. Finally, a particularly loud crack make him jerk awake with a muffled cry. For a long time he sat upright, messy hair hanging over his face, taking in deep breaths and reminding himself where he was. Flashes of lightning blazed through the window in relentless repetition. He reached over and adjusted the window pane until it blocked most of the light. But the thunder continued. "Just lie down and go back to sleep," Shiro told himself. But he found he couldn't, and it took him a moment to realize why. He was afraid. Afraid to return to the nightmares.
A sudden light rapping at his door made his whole body freeze up. At first, his clouded mind could only speculate that the noise came from someone wanting to harm him.
"Shiro?"
The tiny, hesitant voice made him instantly relax. He slipped out of bed and opened the door. Pidge was standing there in her frog pajamas, her hair hanging haphazardly over her face. "What is it, Pidge?"
She clutched her arms awkwardly. "I just...well...the thunder woke me up, and I was trying to go back to sleep. But for some reason, I couldn't stop thinking about Dad and Matt...and what might have happened to them." Another loud thundercrack echoed through the castle. It reminded Shiro of his lion's snarls.
Pidge wiped at her eyes. "When I was younger, I used to hate thunderstorms. I'd go over to Matt's room and he would tell me funny stories until I fell asleep. But now...Matt's gone. What if - what if I never see him again?" Her next sob came out as a hiccup.
Shiro gently guided her into his room. "You can sit with me for a while. I'm not much of a comedian, but I can try to think of something."
As soon as he sat down, Pidge clambered into his lap. He'd never seen her like this - so weepy, so vulnerable. If only Lance could see, he might've laughed. But Lance wasn't here, and Shiro would never laugh. He tried to think of a funny story, but before he could even make an attempt, Pidge was talking again.
"We had the best water-balloon fights. Matt would always team with Dad and I would team with Mom. Dad would go easy on us, but I'd never go easy on him and Matt. They'd always let us win, but I'd never admit it." She laughed and wiped at her eyes again. "Matt and I would make our own codes. Sometimes, Matt would leave codes around the house and I'd have to go on a treasure hunt to try to find more messages and figure out what surprise he had hidden for me." As Pidge continued talking, Shiro felt her body slowly relax. Her words grew more and more slurred until he couldn't tell what she was saying. Finally, she stopped altogether. Her breaths grew slow and even.
Shiro felt very protective of this small human in his arms. In many ways, he was responsible for her being out here in space in the first place. He felt more determined than ever to take care of her until she was home again with her father and brother. If that day ever came.
The storm was finally starting to abate, but Shiro continued to wait. When he was sure Pidge was asleep, he brushed her bangs aside and kissed her forehead gently. In the gloom, he did not see her mouth subtly curve up into a smile. Taking care to be quiet, he got up and carried her to her room. As he settled her onto her bed and took a few steps towards the door, he turned back and said softly, "Thank you, Pidge."
It wasn't long before Shiro was asleep himself. This time, there were no nightmares.

This makes me think of the song "By Your Side" in Godspell, where a situation of Jesus comforting a woman is turned around so the woman is comforting Jesus. This seems like the same kind of reversal/reciprocation.

Dang this is adorable. I've seen awesome art of him being this great substitute dad/brother for her, but its rather nice to see her being there for him as well. Yeah, we haven't all heard the last of his PTSD problems, I'm sure.
I like how he's doing his darnedest to keep a straight face in front of her but is still shuddering like my old washing machine.
Ironic you mention Lance made them, because my sister and I sort of came up with a short pointless story where Pidge fixes a machine on the ship called the "Tailor", where you put matter in and program outfits and it can fabricate fabric and make clothing. In the story, Lance goes to town with the machine, thus actually living up to the stupid nickname he tried to give himself at the beginning of the show. The gang ends up cosplaying everything from Greek mythology to Wizard of Oz. I should probably write this, lol.

He's so brave and feels so responsible for his duckling no matter how hard he's shaking in his boots, and the little cutie is impressive enough just to wake up and realize that he might need comforting, and then to go down there and say whatever she needs to say so that she can be there for him...so precious! X3
Well, didn't he suffer traumatically at one point, anyway? The thunder could probably still trigger some PTSD even if it's not directly related to the original trauma.

I sometimes use the word "ship" platonically. XD (Like, there's no way I DON'T ship HiccTooth, but I don't know if there's a word that would distinguish platonic shipping from romantic shipping.) I'm not typical, though, so I don't know if anyone else does that.

Yeahh Shiro is like, the leader of this little team of his, so he always feels responsible for everyone (his voice actor [Hercules from the Disney movie actually!] has children of his own and said there's a protective fatherly instinct here and it makes me happy <3) but...this guy has really been through the wringer too and I like drawing things where he gets help too y'know? DUCKLING that's such a cute word for Pidge oh my goshhh ;;A;; Yeah she knows Shiro is scared but also prideful...she's a smart child and knows how to get around this
Shiro (and 2 members of Pidge's family) was abducted by aliens and he was not seen again until a year later looking pretty different than what he did before...he can't remember too well what happened during that year but some flashbacks gradually reveal some things, like how he was imprisoned and forced to fight in an alien gladiator ring, annnnd judging by his prostetic arm he was also experimented on''''I figured the sound of thunder would be dangerously close to the sound of enemy fire on one of the ships he'd been on *shrugs* I was mainly questioning if it was possible to have thunderstorms in space, y'know? X''D But it's all just supposition by this point O.o
