do you mean a finiture? to protect it?
yes, i treat it with a first layer finiture and after the work is done with an other layer of an other type of finiture. Wood is delicate, it needs lots of cares

You are right about Beardsley, I like his works a lot.
I like japanese illustrations and secessionist artists in general. I did lots of illustrations copying their style, several years ago. It could have influenced my lineart, i think.

This in particular are panels of simple panel wood (pine or fir), not ply. I use ply too, sometimes.
All of those need a preparation, before and after the painting (matte and gloss finiture varnish)
