Description Greetings, everyone, and March is finally here. Meaning Spring is finally here. And Spring means a new beginning. New beginnings for even people such as myself. So in the spirit of March, I decided to dedicate the rest of the month to superhero stuff. Whether it be from Marvel, DC, or beyond. With that said, what better way to start this March of Heroes than with a fancast?

So lets do a quick headcount, we've had big budget film adaptations of:

The Avengers
The Justice League
The Guardians of the Galaxy
Big Hero 6
The X-Men
and The Fantastic Four

And yet we don't have one of the Teen Titans?

Ah yes, DC's 2nd most popular superhero team. Young at heart, mature in spirit. They are the five adolescents who guard Jump City in a t-shaped tower. Who fight for truth, justice, and the last slice of pizza. They may be young, but they're destined for greatness. Separated? They're heroes. Together? They're the Teen Titans! When there's trouble, you know who to call.

I can safely say, that while I've read my fair share of comics, I have no exposure to the original Teen Titans comics outside of word of mouth. Like a lot of people, my true introduction to this heroic team of teens was with Glen Murakami's hit animated series. A series that, despite me taking a while to really get into, grew on to become one of my top 10 favorite animated shows. Right up there with Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Spectacular Spider-Man, among others. Teen Titans was a show very near and dear to my heart. That said, I haven't seen Young Justice. Why? Because honestly, nothing from what I've heard about the show has motivated me to sit down and watch it. The same can be said for the live-action show, Titans. Sorry, but they lost me at "f*ck Batman". Still, I promise to give both shows a look eventually.

As for Teen Titans Go, I might as well give my quick thoughts on that show. It's gone from a show everyone couldn't shut up about to a show that no one cares about anymore. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who's still ranting about this show. I mean what's left to be said? When the show first started, I didn't love it, but I thought it was ok. At the time my only issue was the fact that it was a direct reboot of Glen Murakami's show. Why not create their own roster of Titans using characters from the comics? And why use the same character designs? And the same voice actors? I'll tell you why, it's because they wanted to trick those fans into watching the show. Still, nothing about the show pissed me off. Then came the "critic bashing" episodes. That's when the show pissed me off. The show is, in my opinion, the worst thing produced by DC Animated. But like I said, no one cares about it anymore because we've said all that can be said about it. Plus I think most people, myself included, have learned to just ignore it. Because the worst thing you can do to a show or movie is just not even watch it. Since probably the self-indulgent episode, I haven't watched anything from the show besides the movie. Which I actually really liked to my own shock.

With all of that said, for this fancast, I'm sticking with only characters who appeared on Teen Titans. Because of all the reasons I just mentioned, and because general audiences are probably gonna be more familiar with these characters due to the popularity of the show. Which makes them the most likely to appear in a hypothetical Teen Titans movie trilogy. If you disagree, then let please, by all means, let me know in the comments what other characters related to the Teen Titans would you include, and who you'd pick to play them. Now I have 3 parts to this fancast, and I have to say, this is my most difficult fancast yet. Because for the Titans themselves and their allies, I had to stick with young actors since they are the Teen Titans. So I tried to stick with actors who were at least born after 1990.

That said, let's begin, my fellow Titans!

Dick Grayson aka Robin aka Nightwing

With Robin, in this hypothetical Teen Titans movie trilogy, I'd want him to start off as Robin, and then slowly transition into Nightwing by the 2nd or 3rd movie. When it comes to both Robin and Nightwing, the version from Teen Titans is my all-time favorite version of Robin. For the longest, a lot of people, myself included, saw Robin as just Batman's sidekick. Then Teen Titans came along and changed all of that. This Robin is done being the compliant little sidekick. He takes charge, he beats the bad guy, and he will always do what he can to win the day. So for Robin, we need an actor who's youthful, full of energy, and can capture the courageous energy of a character like Robin. 10 years or so ago, I would've said Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but as of now, I can think of no one better than Dylan O'Brien. The guy is beyond talented. While he hasn't been in a ton of movies, here's clearly going for quality over quantity, as he's practically become an overnight success. Even if a movie he's in isn't amazing, he's probably going to be one of the best things about it. Most recently he was in one of my favorite movies of 2020, Love and Monsters. Where he not only shows off his comedic skills but his skill as both a dramatic actor and a bit of an action star. All of the qualities I want in my ideal live-action Robin. You could say he's a bit too old, but that just means he's just perfect for playing Nightwing.

Princess Koriand'r aka Starfire
She is the princess of power who joined the Teen Titans when she ended up on earth and the Titans took her under their wing to help her fit in. Starfire was born on the planet Tamaran. A world where emotions drive the livelihood of its inhabitants. As well as give them powers. As a child, Starfire had to abandon her home due to it being war-torn. With her parents dead, and her siblings being far away from her, Star was stuck on earth. Where she later met Robin and the rest of the Titans and quickly formed a bond with them. Star, in my opinion, is the true powerhouse of the team and is only limited by her lack of understanding of earth culture. So we need a young actor with a lot of youthful energy and play off other actors exceptionally well. I can think of no one better than Kaitlyn Dever. You probably recognize her from Booksmart. Where she played the very awkward Amy. A girl who often makes decisions based on her emotions. Kaitlyn is both funny and very good at playing off other actors. Her chemistry with Beanie Feldstein was excellent. So seeing her play off the other Titans would be amazing in my opinion.

Raven
Her mother is a witch, her father is a demon, and she's destined to bring forth the apocalypse. You'd be gloomy too. At the same time, she's that easily annoyed roommate who just wants a little space but still likes having friends around. She's also the most powerful member of the team, and she isn't afraid to show it. Still, she has to remember to keep her emotions in check since, like Starfire, her emotions are what govern her powers. And there's always a risk of her losing control of herself. In the Teen Titans cartoon, a lot of people loved her odd-couple relationship with Beast Boy, and while I do enjoy their scenes together, personally, I was always more fond of her relationship with Robin. Not in a boyfriend/girlfriend kind of way, but more like a couple of hard-working detectives who have worked together for a long time, and are always on the same page no matter how bad the situation gets. Despite how gloomy she is, Raven still fights to save the world because her fellow Titans give her something to believe in. So we need an actress who is good at playing characters who are calm under pressure. To me, no one fits that better than Chloë Grace Moretz. I've always liked her as an actress, but it was her role in Kick-Ass that proved to me that she could handle this kind of role. So we know she can play action heroes. Not to mention, she voiced Wednesday Addams in 2019's The Addams Family. A character who might as well be Raven without the superpowers. Need I say more?

Garfield Logan aka Beast Boy
The son of wildlife experts, Garfield Logan's childhood was basically like The Wild Thornberry's. He and his parents would travel the world studying different animals. But when he was bitten by a rare green monkey, he contracted a deadly disease called Sakutia. To save his life, Logan's father injected him with an experimental serum that allowed him to transform into a green monkey to let the disease die out. This ended up giving him the ability to transform into any animal. Even extinct ones! In addition to turning his skin, hair, and eyes green. After his parents died in a boating accident and being a criminal for a while, Logan eventually wound up joining the Doom Patrol. Where he took on the name of Beast Boy. In the comics, he left the Doom Patrol after the rest of the team died, and finds a new family in the form of the Teen Titans. In the cartoon, he left due to Mento's harsh ways and unkind words and stumbles into the other Titans by complete accident. Beast Boy is the goofball of the team. The class clown. He's the youngest member, and while often not given enough respect, he's still a vital member of the team. He may a dimwit, but he's still loyal, and helps reminds the other members to have fun. So we need a young actor who, at the very least, is charming and funny. If Cameron Boyce were still with us, I'd say he'd be perfect for this role. That said, my new pick is Ansel Elgort. Just humor me on this one. I wanted to cast someone younger than the rest of my choices for the main Titans, but I honestly couldn't think of anyone young enough who I had actually seen in something. Ansel may be older than my choices for Starfire and Raven, but he's still funny and charming. His role in films like Baby Driver is a testament to this. If I had to pick anyone else, I'd probably go with Logan Lerman or Jake T. Austin.

Victor Stone aka Cyborg
Victor Stone was a serious athlete who often worked in his parent's laboratory before a scientific accident killed his mother and seriously injured himself. To save his life, Victor's father replaced his injured body parts with mechanical ones to keep him alive. While Victor's life was saved, his friends all saw him as a monster, and thus he ran away from home but was eventually taken in by the Teen Titans. Because they didn't care what he looked like and they treated him like a friend. While he has also joined the Justice League on a number of occasions, to me, Cy will always be a Titan. Cyborg is the smart-jock of the team. Handling all of the tech-stuff, while also serving as a powerhouse when he wants to be. Armed with his iconic sonic-cannon, Cy is part man, part machine, but all hero. One thing I love about the version of Cyborg from the cartoon is his bombastic personality. Growing up, I would always see black characters in cartoons be portrayed as the calm and laid back one, so I thought it was cool to see that Cyborg was played up as the most energetic member of the team. Cyborg loves life. Fate gave him a second chance, and he sure as hell doesn't waste it. So we need an actor who is full of energy but also has experience being part of an ensemble cast. If you saw my Justice League International fancast, then you know who I want in this role. John Boyega! A true breakout star of the 2010s. Best known for his performances in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Pacific Rim Uprising, John just has so much talent. The guy was born for this role. While he probably couldn't play the most convincing teenager, Cy is supposed to be the oldest member anyway. And you couldn't tell me it wouldn't be awesome to hear him shout "booyah".

Wally West aka Kid Flash
So with my fancasts, I always cast 6 characters with each part. Since Kid Flash is a prominent member of the team in the comics, I'd figure I'd include him in part 1. The 2nd person to become the Flash, Wally gained his powers through the same means as Barry Allen. Who just so happened to be Wally's uncle. When he did get his powers, Wally and Barry had a strong friendship, but eventually went on to become a Teen Titan. Wally is the speedster of the group and often provides his own witty commentary on missions. So like Beast Boy, we need an actor who is charming and funny. I went with someone relatively unknown. In this case: Colin Ford. You might recognize him from Captain Marvel, We Bought a Zoo, and Daybreak, but personally, I know him best from one of my biggest guilty pleasures, Jack and the Beanstalk. Specifically the 2009 version. Does anyone remember this film? Probably not, but I loved it as a kid, but I see it for its flaws as an adult. Colin was legitimately really good in the role of Jack. Coming off as surprisingly charming and likable. And I think it's time he starred in an actually memorable superhero film.

And that was part 1 of my Teen Titans fancast. Next time I cast their allies, as well as an enemy. Until next time, have a great night, be safe, take care, and remember, when there's trouble, you know who to call.
