Description
Alternative title: Hello. My name is Alwen, son of Imdra. You threatened my subordinates. Prepare to die. Media: sakura microns, DecoTime markers
This piece started as an attempt to vent some frustration over being ill in summer, combined with an attempt to squeeze the last drops of ink out of a blue marker - which then ended up in something much larger than a mere sketch. Now we've got a spoilerous image with an odd color scheme, and a half-assed attempt at managing light sources. Also, as someone whose favorite color is blue, I sure don't use blues nearly enough.
The Blackoak Forest is a weird place, where nothing is quite as it seems. It's best not to venture there unless you have a particularly strong death wish. As such, most people avoid venturing within its borders too far, at least.Β Up until a certain point in time 'most people' included Alwen, but desperation drives men to take desperate measures. Apparently, it also drives men to pick up magic swords in order to single-handedly face off against magical threats.
There's no need to tell him this is a bad idea. He knows it is. It doesn't stop him from trying anyways.

Wow that colour scheme is so striking! It looks mysterious with that blue and ominous with that blood-red, while the purple notes makes it look magical. And the brightness around his sword gives so much depth to the whole piece! I love his determined expression - wouldn't want to stand in his way... And wow, a magic sword? I hope its magic is strong enough to help AlwenΒ single-handedly face off against the threat before him...

Thank you so very much for your kind words! Your insights always are such a delight to read (as they are accurate, too!) It may sound a little odd, but my most important characters each represent a martial concept or weapon, and Al represents the sword (focus, control, accuracy), and I'm really glad his determination comes across well in this piece. ^^ There's nothing more intense than gazing at your opponent over the tip of your blade.
And yeah! A magic sword - he acquires it halfway through the story after a little stint in the Blackoak Forest. (It's one of the things I didn't show in OC-Training due to its spoilerous nature, although it is present in some of my older artworks depicting Al). Although it won't be strong enough to get Al through the fight, it buys him enough time to escape it at least.
Also, my apologies for my lack of response and comments for so long! I really hope to get back in the commenting-saddle sometime soon, once I've got more time to devote to your works. I've been enjoying Lucky Wolf thoroughly (I read them as I commuted to uni) - the installments deserve a bit of a lengthy review on my part, but sadly, I haven't yet found the time to comment on them. I hope to do so in the oncoming month at least.

Thank you! ^^ It's been something I've been toying with ever since I started taking both my own martial arts practice as well as my story a little more seriously, a couple of years ago.Β
To summarize my character inspirations: Va embodies gi - righteousness (the duty to be honest, just, and thorough); Elihal is makoto - honesty (or rather, commitment), as well as represents bow and arrow (once an arrow is released, it cannot be retrieved mid-flight: it strikes); Minne is yu - courage (to live fully, without fear); Caleb is jin - benevolence, humanity (in-between heaven-and-earth, to remain grounded without losing idealism), and in a sense, he embodies aiki as well, representing harmony . (Al's virtue is jisei btw - self-control).Β
I hope to comment on some installments soon! It's been a wonderful read so far!
