"Anven's the last member of the Elite four. It's strange, he didn't used to use poison types but something happened to him to devout his entirety to mastering them. He eventually settled on an obsession with spiders however, I don't know maybe he just hates other bugs or something..."
Oh Lance...I both love and hate that you're a poison type. On one hand I had so much fun imagining you after someone posted "I can just imagine him running up to Koga after Red beat him screaming "Teach me everything you know about poison types!"". On the other hand Misty ended up being poison as well, so every single idea of him being a scientist went out the window. Perhaps this is why Nintendo has made no more poison leaders after Koga and Janine styles for them are few and far between. I originally was going to make him have a sort of Venomoth suit on...but partway through the design having Lance be a giant moth said bug before poison, so I went in the other direction had had him be the complete anti-thesis to moths and became SpiderLance.
Lance is a little depressing when I looked up his name origin...It's apparently just the lances were used by knights to slay dragons... Which makes me glad that he's not a fire type or something or I would have had to call him "Water" or some variation. As is I named him "Anven" as a kind of mutilation of the word "anti-venom".
