Description SS-R01 Raethos

height around 18 meters, it can function as both sniper and/or recon unit

equipped with a 450mm long-ranged/ sniper rifle as a primary armament (can use other weapons if necessery though), two 25mm machine guns on its head, it has a long range radar system
it's not a very powerful unit for a short range, but very effective for long range

the sketches on the right are just about arms and legs movement mechanism

Nice Robot love the sketch. I might go a little bigger with his feet just to make him look planted on the ground a little more. Just a suggestion. I still faved it though.

That's so hot... I wanna climb that shit with my gentleman rival and engage him in a fistfight all over it while it runs around and snipes or whatever. You know, try to knock my rival off and so forth.

Do you free hand this stuff or use a t-square to porportion it out or something??? I want to be able to draw mecha and nothing I try seem to come out quite right, especially proportions and perspective (shudder). Do you have any tips or suggestions for creating this level of mechanical drawing?

MeganeRid In reply to Nikkio101 [2005-08-12 20:27:47 +0000 UTC]

usually i freehand my drawings ~this one though, i made the rough sketch first, then drew it to form the overall look, and then made the details in my tracing paper , after that i redraw what i've made in the tracing paper~

yea i think perspectived mech is not easy to draw >_<|| for proportion... i dunno, but i usually started drawing mechs from the head, or torso~ hmm for tips on mechs drawing, i think... go and see mechs drawings from other artists? and let our fantasy help

polidread [2005-08-12 16:45:41 +0000 UTC]

nice! what does it use to compensate for the recoil? and its stabilizing gyro? or are those attachments too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MeganeRid In reply to polidread [2005-08-12 19:38:46 +0000 UTC]

thx~ for the recoil, i didnt really think of it when i started this one, i think the arm mechanism could give help reducing it~ and the leg, the back of the foot part can get lowered with the body part gets bent forward.

and stabilizing gyro if it's the left part.. i was thinking of it as part of the recon system when i made it >.<

polidread In reply to MeganeRid [2005-08-13 03:56:12 +0000 UTC]

well.... its a mechanical giant, that's a difficult thing to balance on two feet, now give it a giant sniper rifle- another difficult thing to balance without its own tripod stand, and finally, because its is a sniper unit, its going to have to move out of its sniper position after a single shot so it wont give away its tactical position and immediately need to stabilize itself for another shot in another position ... in probably an uneven terrain like a mountain canyon or city scape....you'll be needing plenty of stabilizers, both built-in (internal) and as attachments (external) ...

have fun with the military science fiction !!!!

MeganeRid In reply to polidread [2005-08-13 04:59:45 +0000 UTC]

oh yea >_< just realized after you said that, the sniper rifle do have its stabiliser stand on the front part of it~ i just completely forgot after i drew it, maybe the stand's too small though >_>

thx for the suggestion maybe rather than traditional sniper rifle, it should've used recoiless beam rifle instead XD
