As much as I love the series, I do respect Alex's decision to finish the show. I also had a feeling GF was nearing its end with Ford coming back since they were really building up something epic. You couldn't really compare any other possible plotline to Weirdmageddon either. And they mention how summer is coming to an end too, which is what Alex wanted to tell.
Finishing the show is fine, at least it will end on a great note rather than go on forever to the point it loses its charm like Spongebob, Simpsons, Family Guy, and Pokemon.

oh don't get me wrong, i do think alex's decision to end the show was a good one, and i'm glad that disney is respecting his wishes and not continuing it without him or canceling it early (which is what i feared they would do, as it might have been getting too scary for disney), i just wish the show could have gone on just one season longer, to add to the suspense and mystery. i feel like with only two seasons the mystery element was cut short a bit, like they wrapped things up too early to be genuinely mysterious.
but that doesn't mean its not one of the best cartoons i've ever seen despite that. and to have such an epic finale as weirdmageddon is icing on the cake. and i'm glad, like you said, that it isn't going to go on and on into a downward spiral of shark-jumping terribleness.

Well, I wouldn't have minded if they decided to do more character-driven episodes in another season. But I still would rather have it end here rather than just keep going and run out of ideas. Everything has to come to an end unfortunately...There are some shows I do like that might have ended too early, but I think the feeling of wanting more of it is what helps keep the fondness alive, and you remember how much you enjoyed the experience.
